by June 25, 2018

Oppo-find-X-vs-vivo-x21China based Oppo launched its latest flagship Oppo Find X earlier this week at an event in Paris. The phone has grabbed a lot of attention, thanks to its unique design language with pop-up camera setup comprising of three cameras (dual rear + single selfie camera). One of its closest rival is the Vivo X21, which was launched in India last month. The highlight of the device is its in-display fingerprint sensor. Let’s compare the Oppo Find X with Vivo X21 on various parameters to find out which one is a better buy.

Oppo Find X vs Vivo X21: Design

The Oppo Find X has a very unique as well as premium design with 3D curved glass covering its front and back. It also features Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. As mentioned earlier, the phone sports a sliding design wherein the camera set up is hidden at the top and it pop-up as soon as the camera app is launched revealing the dual rear camera along with selfie camera. The company has managed to achieve a very high screen-to-body ratio of 93.8% with this design making it a truly bezel-less phone. The absence of notch gives a very fresh appeal to the handset as a lot of handset makers have copied the notch after it was first featured in iPhone X in order to achieve high screen-to-body ratio. Hats off to Oppo to be able to manage the same without keeping the notch. On the other hand, the Vivo X21 features conventional design sporting a full-screen yet a notched display. So, in our view the Oppo Find X scores higher as compared to Vivo X21 in terms of design.

Oppo Find X vs Vivo X21: Display

The Oppo Find X bears a 6.4-inch OLED FHD+ display with 2340 x 1080 pixel resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. While the Vivo X21 sports a slighly bigger 6.28-inch Super AMOLED FHD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. However, the Find X has still managed to achieve a better screen-to-body ratio (93.8%) as compared to Vivo X21.

Oppo Find X vs Vivo X21: Security

For security purpose, the Vivo X21 features an in-display fingerprint scanner. You can touch anywhere in the lower section of the display to unlock the phone. The phone also has AI Face Access feature which can unlock the phone in 0.1 seconds as claimed by the company.

The Find X does not feature any physical or in-display fingerprint scanner. But it has face unlock feature. You may be worried about the durability issue as the selfie camera has to pop-up every time in order to scan the face and unlock the phone. However, the company claims to have tested the mechanism for about 300,000 slides and is confident that there won’t be any issue at least for five years. In addition, the pop-out mechanism is very fast as well i.e. the camera set up pops out within less than half a second.

Oppo Find X vs Vivo X21: OS, Battery and Other Hardware Specifications

The Find X is shipped with Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box topped with company’s own Color OS 5.1 interface. While the Vivo X21 is shipped with Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box with Vivo’s Funtouch OS 4.0 on top.

So, the Oppo Find X seems to score better in terms of performance due to the better chipset and battery capactiy as compared to Vivo X21.

Oppo Find X vs Vivo X21: Camera

The Find X bears a dual camera set up on the rear consisting of 16MP primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a 20MP secondary sensor with f/2.2 aperture. The front hosts a 25MP selfie camera with AI beautification and 3D emojis. The camera set up has AI capabilities in the form of portrait mode, screen recognition and AR stickers.

The Vivo X21 also sports a dual rear camera set up but it consists of a 12MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 5MP secondary sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The selfie camera is 12MP with f/2.0 aperture, 3D mapping and IR light.

Again, the Oppo Find X turns out to be the winner in the camera department as well. However, please note that the on-paper camera performance can defer from that of actual. So, its better to read some more expert/user reviews to compare the actual camera performance.
