OnePlus 6T

The OnePlus 6 was one of the most anticipated Android phones of the year and now the company is all set to launch its upgraded version dubbed as OnePlus 6T. The official launch date is not yet revealed by the company, but it is expected to be launched on 17th October and the sale could start from 21st October. Ahead of the launch, Pete Lau (OnePlus CEO) has revealed certain key details regarding the smartphone.

  1. The OnePlus 6T will be more expensive than its previous variant. He also mentioned that inclusion of the in-display fingerprint scanner is the primary reason for increase in price. But he did not obviously reveal the exact pricing details.
  2. Pete Lau also confirmed that the 3.5 mm headphone jack will be missing in OnePlus 6T (that’s really sad!). This is again due to the inclusion of the in-display fingerprint scanner which will be called Screen Lock. The in-display scanner needs more space and thus company had to replace the 3.5 mm jack with single USB-Type C port. So, in case you wish to use headphones with 3.5 mm jack, then you’ll need to carry an extra accessory which is a but tedious. However, Pete Lau is confident that people would love the in-display sensor as it apparently works like ‘magic’.
  3. The OnePlus 6T will neither have wireless charging support nor the IP rating. However, Pete Lau said that the phone will still be as good as water resistant against splashes, rain or a mug of water. He further added that the number of users that are taking their phone to go swimming are few and thus there is no value addition in getting the IP rating which comes at a substantial cost, thereby increasing the price of the phone.

He further added that the reason for not having wireless charging support is that it adds to the internal heat of the phone and the company would like to have a better alternate solution before including the feature in its phone. Another reason is that the company wants the wireless charging to be as fast as the Dash Charge support.

The OnePlus 6T is expected to sport a design language similar to that of OnePlus 6 i.e. it will come with rounded edges, metal frame and glass body. The phone is expected to sport a larger 6.4-inch display with waterdrop shaped notch at the top as compared to 6.28-inch display with wide notch found in OnePlus 6. Under the hood, the phone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor along with 8GB of RAM and 256GB onboard storage. It will run Oxygen OS software based on Android 9 Pie.
