OnePlus, the Chinese mobile phone maker, has updated its software maintenance schedule. The update reveals that all OnePlus phones, starting OnePlus 3, will be eligible to receive new Android versions, new features and bi-monthly security patches for at least 2 years.

The newly launched OnePlus 6, that runs on Android Oreo at present, will get Android P and Android Q (tentative names of the upcoming Android OS) updates. After the completion of 2 years, the eligible OnePlus phones will receive an additional security update for 24 months.

“As per the maintenance schedule, there will be 2 years of regular software updates from the release date of the phone (release dates of T variants would be considered), including new features, Android versions, Android security patches and bug fixes and an additional year of Android security patch updates every 2 months,” notes OnePlus in the OnePlus forum.

The updated software maintenance schedule will not only benefit the recently launched OnePus 6 and a year-old OnePlus 5 and 5T, but also the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T which have been launched almost two years ago. The new software maintenance schedule will be applied on the above-mentioned OnePlus devices immediately.

The smartphone maker has confirmed that both the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will get their last open beta build update in a next few days. Once the final update is received, the program will be closed for beta users. After rolling out the last open beta update, all the beta users will be migrated to a stable version of OxygenOS. This development will take place in the beginning of July.

“We will be publishing the last Open Beta build for OnePlus 3/3T later this week, and at the beginning of July, we will provide a stable version of OnePlus 3/3T for beta testers to migrate back to the stable version of OxygenOS,” notes OnePlus.

The OnePlus Software Maintenance Schedule also conveys that the OnePlus 3 and 3T users will continue to get regular OTA updates till November 2018. The users will also receive 1 year of extended Android security patches. “In order to ensure stability, it is necessary to clear the data and the cache before flashing back to the stable version, please do backup your important data before flashing,” notes OnePlus.

OnePlus will be announcing more in terms of Android updates for its OnePlus 3 and 3T users. The company says, “we look forward to bring you more exciting news about Android version updates for OnePlus 3/3T in the coming months, stay tuned.”
