After a prolonged hype phase, Nothing has finally unveiled its debut smartphone Phone (1) in global markets including India. The start-up Nothing was established by OnePlus ex-cofounder Carl Pei last year with a debut TWS earphones Ear (1). At the start of 2022, Nothing confirmed their debut smartphone to be introduced by this year and the day is finally here. The smartphone comes with a certain set of unique features.

Nothing Phone (1) will come with a unique rear layout with a set of LEDs that are synced to glow with notifications. Few other notable features are 120Hz AMOLED display, 50-megapixel primary sensor, 5G-equipped Snapdragon 700-series SoC, and a bigger battery unit with fast charging. Nothing Phone (1): Key specs & features

The 6.55” AMOLED panel on the latest Nothing Phone (1) will carry a punch hole cutout for the front camera. The cutout is aligned to the top left. The screen will produce FHD+ resolution paired with 120Hz refresh rate. The smartphone will also come equipped with 10-bit color gamut and will also have an under-display fingerprint scanner for biometrics security. The panel is being protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and for the front 16MP optical setup, Nothing is using a Sony IMX471 sensor.

Moving to the rear optical setup, the dual camera array will house a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor. It will also come with OIS support. The main lens will get paired with another 50MP Samsung JN1 sensor for the ultra-wide frame. The FOV offered by Nothing here is 114-degree. The optical setup comes with a set of advanced features like 4K60fps recording, scene detection, HDR (live), and night mode.

Nothing is providing a set of LEDs on the rear, dubbing it the Glymph Interface. It will glow upon receiving any notification and will also indicate the charging status. There will also be the feature to set customized lighting patterns for specific contacts. On the software front, the Nothing Phone (1) will boot on Android 12 on top of NothingOS. The operating system offers a stock experience. As per the brand, Phone (1) will get 4 years of security patches with 3 years of OS updates.

At its core, the smartphone will draw its power from a Snapdragon 778G+ SoC paired with up to 12 gigs of memory. The LPDDR5 memory will be accompanied by an onboard storage of up to 256GB UFS 3.1. The 4,500 mAh battery will come with 33W fast charging. Nothing Phone (1) will also come with the wireless 15W Qi charging. Few other connectivity features are WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1, USB Type-C port, NFC, GPS, dual 5G support, facial recognition, and a set of stereo speakers. It will also have the water resistance rating of IP53.

Pricing and availability

Nothing Phone (1) will be available in two color options; White and Black. There will be three memory and storage variants; 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, and 12GB+256GB available at a retail price of ₹32,999, ₹35,999, and ₹38,999. The pre-booking window is open and the official sale will commence on July 21 through Flipkart and the brand’s website.

For the buyers who have already pre-ordered the Nothing Phone (1) will get an instant ₹2,000 off for the transactions through HDFC Bank cards. As the brand is not offering a charging adapter in the box, Nothing is selling it separately for ₹2,499. It is a 45W USB Type-C adapter. The pre-order buyers will get the option of buying at just ₹1,499. The TWS earbuds Ear (1) is also available at ₹1,000 off for the pre-orders at ₹5,999.
