After the success of Lumia 520 (launched at Mobile World Congress in February’13), Nokia was bound to launch its successor and it was speculated to be launched at Nokia World 2013 in Abu Dhabi last month. But it didn’t happen. Finally the Finnish handset maker has extended its Lumia range with low priced Lumia 525 that looks identical to its predecessor.

lumia 525The device has the same screen as that of 520 i.e. 4-inch (LCD display) with 480×800 resolution and runs on Windows Phone 8 OS with the Lumia Black update. Its powered by a dual-core 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with 1GB RAM which is double than Lumia 520 (512MB RAM). There’s 8GB of in-built storage that can be expanded up to 64GB by microSD card.

In terms of camera, there’s 5MP auto-focus rear camera capable of recording high definition videos with 720p. But it lacks features like flash, Nokia Smart Camera Cinemagraph lens, Panorama lens etc. There is no front facing camera (most probably due to the low price) which is one of the major drawbacks.

The device is backed with 1430mAh battery that can provide up to 17 hours of talk time and up to 336 hours of standby time. For connectivity purpose there are options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, A-GLONASS 3G.

Key specifications of Lumia 525

Display: 4″ WVGA IPS LCD
OS: Windows Phone 8 with Lumia Black
Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor with 1GHz
Camera: 5MP
Battery: 1430 mAh

The phone will be available in three interchangeable covers with color options- White, Orange and Yellow. Also, there are several headphone options available with colors ranging from Blue, Yellow and Red.

Considering the specs, Lumia 525 is expected to compete against XOLO Q700, Micromax A90S and similar devices in the price range of Rs. 8000-Rs.10,000/-

Nokia has not yet revealed any details about the pricing and the availability; however it is first expected to be made available for Africa, Asia Pacific and Middle East by the end of this year.
