WhatsApp, one of the most popular instant messaging applications will finally be available for the Nokia Asha 501. The much anticipated app will be available following the OTA (over-the-air) software update. WhatsApp is already available on other Asha series phones that run on the old platform. Asha 501 is the first device to run on the new platform and will have WhatsApp pre-installed. The new devices will hit the stores on 5th December’13. Users will be able to see WhatsApp updates via Fastlane screen that provides quick access to favorite content and apps. The popular messaging service will also come pre-installed on the recently announced Asha 500, Asha 502 and the Asha 503 Dual SIM when they hit the stores later this year. At present WhatsApp has about 350 million monthly active users and over 20 million users in India.
In addition to WhatsApp, the new software update comes with single touch social sharing, single swipe camera and more intuitive home screen. It will enable users to track Facebook comments and likes directly from the Fastlane screen. The single swipe camera feature will provide a quick access to camera with a swipe on lock screen. Further, user can capture images by touching anywhere on the camera screen.
The new software update also brings an API for VoIP that enables users to make calls over a data connection using any third party app. like Nimbuzz (more apps. will be added soon).
