HMD Global has announced that the Nokia 8110 4G banana phone will now get WhatsApp support in India. The Nokia 8110 4G was launched in India in October 2018. It was priced at Rs 5,999 which was an attempt to take on Xiaomi Redmi 6A based on price points.

As per the company – HMD Global, the Nokia 8110 4G users will now be able to download WhatsApp. The users can do this from the Nokia Store which is offered along with the Nokia smartphone. The Nokia 8110 4G runs the KaiOS software, just like JioPhone and JioPhone2. While the feature phone did not launch with the WhatsApp support, the company had announced that it will bring WhatsApp support to the handset soon.

HMD Global has ensured the same and declared from its headquarters in Finland that Indians are amongst the first ones in the world to be able to use WhatsApp on the Nokia 8110 4G Banana phone.

Commenting on WhatsApp coming to Banana phone Ajey Mehta, Vice President and Country Head – India, HMD Global, said in a statement, “We’re so happy that our fans in India will get WhatsApp on Nokia 8110 first anywhere in the world. The Nokia 8110 is a phone for ‘the originals’ and I hope along with adding to the style quotient, this new addition of WhatsApp to the already existing bouquet of apps on Nokia 8110 will make it the ideal choice for our fans.”

The Nokia 8110 4G is available in India for Rs. 5,999 and in two colour options namely Banana Yellow and Traditional Black. The phone can be bought offline or online via Nokia’s online retail partners. The Banana phone is available on Nokia’s own online store.

As for its specifications, the Nokia 8110 4G packs in a 2.45-inch QVGA display. The display comes with a screen resolution of 240×320 pixels. The feature phone also supports dual-SIM (Micro+Nano). The phone runs on KaiOS.

Under the hood, the banana phone is powered by a 1.1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 205 processor. It is paired with 512MB of LPDDR3 RAM and 4GB storage. The storage space can be expanded via external microSD card slot.

The Nokia 8110 4G sports a rear camera but does not offer a selfie camera. The phone comes with a 2-megapixel rear camera paired with LED flash. The phone is powered by a 1,500mAh battery. As per the company, it can deliver up to 9.32 hours of talk-time and the phone offers 25 days of standby time.
