HMD Global, a Finnish company that owns the right to sell Nokia-branded smartphones has started sending out media invites for its September 26 event in India. Press invite reads, “There are two sides to every story. Don’t miss out on yours. Join us for the unveiling of the next milestone of Nokia phones.” Now, that’s a clear hint at the launch of Nokia 8, as it comes with the new dual-camera setup and ‘Bothie’ feature. For those unaware, it makes use of the front and rear cameras simultaneously to stitch images and videos into one file. Currently, the Nokia 8 is the only phone in the company’s arsenal to boast such a feature.
Nokia 8 is the current gen flagship phone from Nokia and sports a 5.3-inch Quad HD IPS display. It is a metal unibody phone and is quite thin at 7.9 mm. The Nokia 8 comes with an IP54 certified dust and splash resistant body. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835, which also does duty on many other premium smartphones. In order to keep the things running cool, Nokia has equipped this phone with the internal water-cooled copper coil. The Nokia comes in 4 GB RAM+ 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage options.
At the back, you get vertically stacked dual 13 MP Carl Zeiss developed optics with f/2.0 aperture coupled with Hybrid autofocus and OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation). The selfie shooter is also a 13 MP unit with f/2.0 and PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus) for faster focus lock times. Nokia 8 is also the world’s first smartphone to feature the ‘OZO’ Audio, which captures Spatial 360 audio making use of the 3 mics on the device.
The Nokia 8 offers a fingerprint sensor, LTE Cat-9 support for faster cellular download speeds, and a non-removable 3090 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
