Nokia 8.1HMD Global had launched the Nokia 8.1 smartphone in India earlier this month and the phone goes on sale in the country for the first time starting today at Rs. 26,999 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant. During the launch event, HMD said that there will be a 6GB + 128GB variant of the Nokia 8.1 that will launch in January. The phone will be sold online via Amazon.in as well as the official Nokia e-shop and offline via all leading Nokia-affiliated retail stores. Users will have two colour options- Blue/ Silver and Iron/ Steel. HDFC Bank users will get 10 percent cashback on purchase via HDFC Bank Credit and Debit card EMI transactions. Airtel prepaid users will get 1TB 4G data on eligible plans starting Rs 199. Airtel postpaid customers will get additional 120GB data along with three months of Netflix subscription and one Amazon Prime subscription on plans starting Rs 499.

The Nokia 8.1 is global variant of the Nokia X7 smartphone that was launched in China and is successor to the Nokia 7 Plus. The highlights of the device include Snapdragon 710 chipset and Android 9 Pie out of the box.

It sports a 6.18-inch PureDisplay IPS LED panel with Full-HD+ resolution of 2246×1080 pixels and aspect ratio of 18.7:9. PureDisplay is a screen technology that offers a higher contrast and sharper display along with HDR10 support. The display also features 2.5D curved glass. Powering the device are Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC clocked up to 2.2GHz along with Adreno 616 GPU and 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM. The internal storage capacity of the device is 64G, which can be expanded further up to 400GB via microSD card. To keep things ticking, there is a 3,500mAh battery along with support for 18W fast charging that can deliver up to 22 hours of talk time, 24 days of standby time, and up to 11 hours of video playback as claimed by the company.

In terms of optics, the Nokia 8.1 offers Zeiss-powered dual camera set up on the back which comprises of a 12MP primary sensor with 1.4 micron pixel, OIS, EIS and 2PD support + a 13MP secondary sensor for depth sensing. The front hosts a 20MP fixed focus lens with 0.9-micron pixels. The company is also highlighting its new Bothie feature, which allows both the front as well as rear camera to be used simultaneously.

For connectivity purpose, there’s 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, VoWiFi, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, FM radio, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C port. The on-board sensors include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. For security purpose, the phone features a rear mounted fingerprint sensor. In terms of dimensions, the phone measures 154.8×75.76×7.97 mm and weighs in at 178 grams.
