And now HMD Global, which designs and sells phones under the Nokia brand, has launched Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphone in India. Nokia 6.1 Plus vs Oppo F9 vs Xiaomi Mi A2: Design and Display

The Nokia 6.1 Plus sports a 5.8-inch full-HD+ display with 1080×2280 pixel resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The display has an iPhone X like notch at the top and is protected by layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top.

Xiaomi Mi A2 bears slightly bigger 5.99-inch full-HD+ display with 1080×2160 pixel resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The display has a 2.5D curved glass and Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top.

The Oppo F9 wins the battle here as it features a larger 6.3-inch full-HD+ display with 2280×1080 pixel resolution and 19.5:9 screen aspect ratio resulting into impressive screen-to-body ratio of 90.8 per cent. Company has managed achieve this by means of a unique notch with water drop like design at the top that houses the selfie camera, light sensor and the earpiece.

In terms of dimensions, the Nokia 6.1 Plus measures 147.2×70.98×7.99 mm and weighs in at 151 grams. The Oppo F9 measures 156.70×74.00×7.90 mm and weighs about 169 grams. While, the Mi A2 measures 158.70×75.40×7.30 and weighs 168 grams.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus is powered by 2.2 GHz Octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC along with an Adreno 509 GPU for graphics, 4GB of RAM. The inbuilt storage capacity of the device is 64GB which can be extended further up to 256GB, thanks to the dedicated microSD card slot.

While the Oppo F9 is powered by MediaTek Helio P60 chipset clocked at 2.0 GHz coupled with ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU for graphics. The storage capacity is same as Nokia 6.1 Plus i.e. 64GB with an option to expand the same up to 256GB via microSD card.

On the other hand, the Xioami Mi A2 packs an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC coupled with an Adreno 512 GPU for graphics. It comes with two options in terms of RAM and onboard storage- 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. However, it lacks micro-SD card slot for memory expansion. So, users will have to adjust the storage within the inbuilt storage capacity only, which is a kind of drawback as compared to Nokia 6.1 Plus and Oppo F9. But one also needs to consider that there is a higher 128GB inbuilt storage variant with available Mi A2.

The Nokia 6. Plus runs stock Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box and is backed by 3,060mAh battery with fast charging support.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi A2 is shipped with Android 8.0 Oreo OS out of the box and is backed by a 3,010mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging support.

The Oppo F9 runs Color OS 5.2 over and above Android 8.1 Oreo OS and fueled by a larger 3,500mAh battery but lacks the powerful VOOC Charging support that is found in its sibling Oppo F9 Pro.

Notably, the Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Xiaomi Mi A2 are Android One devices i.e. they are expected to get the Google’s latest Android 9.0 Pie sooner as compared to other Android devices.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus features a dual camera set up on the rear which comprises of 12MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and 20MP secondary camera with f/1.8 aperture. The rear camera set up also features dual-tone flash. The front hosts a 16MP snapper with f/2.0 aperture for selfies and video calls.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 also features a dual rear camera system consisting of 12MP + 20MP sensors and an AI powered 20MP selfie camera on the front. The selfie camera features Beautify 4.0, HDR and Portrait Mode. The camera lacks OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) but comes with EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) instead, which ensures a good video quality.

The Oppo F9 features a relatively low configuration camera set up on the rear i.e. 16MP + 2MP dual rear set up. The front hosts a decent 16MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and AI-assistance.

Let us have a look at the most important factor now i.e. the price of the three devices. The Nokia 6.1 Plus comes with a price tag of Rs.15,999. The pre-orders have already started on Flipkart.com and Nokia’s online store. The sale will begin from August 31st. The Mi A2 is priced slightly higher in India as compared to Nokia 6.1 Plus i.e. Rs.16,999. It can be purchased through online flash sale model as of now, so it will be difficult to get your hands on the handset. But in future Xiaomi may start selling it via open sale. While, the Oppo F9 is the costliest of the three phones. Rs. 19,999. All the prices are for the 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage variants of the smartphones. Needless to mention, the Oppo F9 is the costliest amongst the three. The phone is not exclusive to any ecommerce store and will be available online as well offline.

The Oppo F9 is better as compared to Nokia 6.1 Plus and Mi A2 in terms of display and battery size. It also has a unique water-drop design. But it lacks fast charging support and is also priced higher than the other two devices. The Nokia 6.1 Plus and Mi A2 are priced similar and offer pure Android operating system and will also be updated to Android 9 Pie sooner. In terms of camera, the Mi A2 seems to be a better phone of the three, at least on paper.
