Huawei Mate X

Huawei has announced its first foldable smartphone with 5G connectivity in the form of Huawei Mate X at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019. The smartphone comes with a curved OLED display that can be used in three ways, a slim form factor, Kirin 980 chipset with 5G support and Leica-branded optics, among other things.

Huawei Mate X Price, Features and Specifications

The Huawei Mate X is priced at EUR 2,299 (roughly Rs. 1,85,000) and will be available sometime in the middle of 2019.

Unlike the Samsung Fold which sees its Infinity Flex display fold on the inside of the device and revealing a secondary display on the outside, the Mate X has only one large display that folds on the outside. It is a dual-SIM smartphone with a hybrid dual-SIM slot. The primary SIM slot supports 5G while the secondary slot supports a maximum of 4G.

The device can be folded like a book, thereby offering a display on the front as well as back. The smartphone when folded, sports a 6.6-inch FullView display and 6.38-inch displays on either side. While when you open it, the smartphone has an 8-inch (2480×2200 pixels) screen. No matter how you view the display, you will get a borderless, full view experience with no notch and barely any bezels as claimed by the company. For security purpose, the power button on the side embeds a fingerprint sensor.

The Huawei Mate X draws power from Huawei’s flagship Kirin 980 chipset along with a Balong 5000 router for enhanced 5G connectivity. There’s only one variant in terms of memory- 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. It packs a 4,500mAh battery that is split into two to allow the device to bend. The battery supports 55W fast charging tech which can charge up the device to 85 per cent in 30 minutes as claimed by the company.

In terms of optics, the Mate X offers Leica-branded cameras that have been placed on the back side of the hinge. The placement allows one to fold the device and capture super sharp selfies. There is no camera bump on this phone.

The Mate X will currently be available in single Interstellar Blue colour option but more colour variants are expected in future. In terms of dimensions, when unfolded, the Mate X measures a 5.7 mm in thickness and when folded it measures about 11 mm in thickness.
