Korean giant Samsung has taken the wraps off the Galaxy S9 and S9+. These phones come with a refined design and better cameras. The company has finally moved the rear fingerprint sensor in the middle. The sensor was awkwardly placed beside the camera module on the S8.

The new phones feature Infinity Display. The S9+ features a 6.2-inch Quad HD+ AMOLED screen. The compact out of the two, the S9 comes with a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ AMOLED screen. Both these panels have futuristic curves on the sides.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ are powered by Samsung’s Exynos 9 Series 9810 chipset. The American variant will be backed by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC (System on Chip). The Galaxy S9+ will pack in 6 GB RAM. The S9 will make do with 4 GB memory. The phones will come in 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB internal storage. You can expand the storage via the microSD card slot.

For the shutterbugs, the S9+ comes with a dual camera setup. It offers a 12 MP primary lens accompanied by another 12 MP sensor. It can pull of impressive bokeh effect. The camera is also capable of 960 fps super sow-motion video recording.

 

The S9 has a conventional 12 MP camera. Its slow-motion recording tops at 480 fps. For selfies, both the smartphones are equipped with an 8 MP autofocus camera.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ offer automatic Motion Detection, an intelligent feature that detects movement in the frame and automatically begins to record. Users can also easily create, edit and share GIF files right from their phones.

Much like Apple Animoji, Samsung has introduced AR Emoji. This feature lets you create an emoji that looks, sounds, and acts like you. AR Emoji uses a data-based machine learning algorithm, which analyzes a 2D image of the user and maps out facial features to create a 3D model. It then animates according to your expressions.

Samsung’s AI power Bixby too has picked up new tricks. Using the camera, it offers real-time object detection and recognition. Users can translate foreign languages and currency in real time with Live Translation, learn about their surroundings, and purchase products seen in the real world.

The S9 and S9+ come with stereo speakers. These are tuned by tuned by AKG acoustics. These new phones also support Dolby Atmos, giving the effect of 360-degree sound.

With Samsung DeX dock, you can use your smartphone to power a desktop monitor. With keyboard and mouse, you can turn it into a desktop experience. The S9 and S9+ are IP687 water and dust resistance.

The new flagship phones come with multiple biometric authentication options such as iris, fingerprint, and facial recognition. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ take health to the next level with an improved optical sensor built directly into the device. It can track users’ Heart Load Factor.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be available starting in March 16, 2018 in select markets and will be offered in Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue and a new hue, and Lilac Purple.
