HMD Global, an independent company that now owns the rights to sell Nokia branded phones, has unveiled its most affordable smartphone till date. Called the Nokia 1, will retail for a global average retail price of $89 (Rs 5760). The phone will come with bright Xpress-on covers priced at $7.99.

The idea behind the Nokia 1 is to make the technology accessible to millions of people in developing economies. HMD promises to retain the quality and design people expect from the Nokia brand. The affordable phone runs the latest Android Oreo (Go edition). It is a version of Android for devices with 1 GB RAM or less.

The Nokia 1 comes with a 4.5-inch IPS screen with 854 x 480 pixels. It is powered by MediaTek’s MT6737M chipset. It has 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot. The dual SIM phone support 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, and GPS. It packs in a 2150 mAh battery.

The phone is not meant for selfie-addicts as it only features a 2 MP front camera. On the back, you get a decent 5 MP shooter with an LED flash.

HMD claims that the Nokia 1 will come with a fewer pre-installed and much lighter apps on Android Oreo (Go edition). This will effectively give you 2x more available storage out of the box compared with Android Nougat. All Nokia smartphones come with no bloatware, skins, UI changes or unnecessary apps pre-loaded onto your phone, giving you a pure Android experience.
