Asus has finally taken a plunge in the fullscreen display smartphone battle with its latest Zenfone 5 series. The smartphone in picture, the Zenfone 5 Lite sits below the Zenfone 5Z and the Zenfone 5 in terms of specifications and pricing. Where the bigger siblings get a 6.2-inch displays, the Zenfone makes do with a smaller 6-inch Full HD+ IPS display with 18:9 aspect ratio. It has very thin bezels on the top and bottom of the display as opposed to the notch design of the bigger siblings. The phone has a perceivably solid build quality as it is made up of a metal frame sandwiched between the front and rear glass. The back reminds of the erstwhile Zenfone 3 which had a similar construction. The fingerprint sensor is placed at back. The phone measures 160.6 (l) × 76.1 (w) ×7.8 (d) mm and weighs 168.3 grams. It is ultra slim at the sides at only 7.8 mm.

As far as performance goes, this mid-ranger will come in two variants with Snapdragon 630 SoC or the Snapdragon 430 SoC by Qualcomm. It will bear in 3 GB and 4 GB of RAM paired with 32 GB and 64 GB of internal storage respectively. The phone comes with a dedicated microSD card slot which can take up to 256 GB of memory card.

 

On the photography front, the Zenfone 5 Lite wears dual lenses at the front and back. The selfie camera setup comprises of a 20-megapixel and a secondary 120-degree wide angle lens which get Gyro-EIS, PDAF and an LED flash. The rear facing camera gets 16-megapixel cameras with EIS (Electronic image Stabilization), PDAF and LED flash.

The Zenfone 5 Lite is a dual-SIM phone with 4G VoLTE capability. It gets a secondary microphone for noise cancellation and a 3.5mm audio headphone jack is present on the top. The main speaker grill and microUSB port is present on the bottom. Other features include Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS / GLONASS and NFC. It runs on Android 7.1 (Nougat) with Zen UI 4.0 on top, but the company has promised to offer Android 8.0 (Oreo) update for the smartphone. It is powered by a 3300 mAh battery under its hood just like its bigger siblings. The Asus Zenfone 5 Lite comes in Midnight black, Rogue Red, and Moonlight White. It will go on sale from March.
