Football fans may love Barcelona for its Messis and Neymars, but for tech geeks, mention “Barcelona” and all they can think of is everything smart. With Day 1 of the Mobile World Congress taking place in the culture-rich city, fans and followers of the latest technology are having a fun day with all the “smartness” on display. Let’s take a brief look at the brilliant gadgets that were displayed by some of the biggies at this year’s MWC:

Think Epson, and you think printers… but not anymore! With their latest innovation, Epson has effectively made up for what other smart glasses lack- good display. It has made use of OLED display technology to make playing augmented reality games, watch videos or movies, and display other type of content in 2D or 3D. Powered by a quad-core Intel Atom X5 processor, the pair looks a tad weird, but so far appear to be one of the best in the market so far. They operate on Android Lollipop, and come with a 5MP front facing camera. If you’re looking to step into the future of VR gaming, then you may have to wait until the end of the year to lay your hands on this Epson’s masterpiece.
Sony Xperia X, and XA

With an impressive edge-to-edge screen that shouts “Sony”, the new Sony X and XA sport a 5” display, with the Xperia X getting full HD support, while the XA gets the lesser HD support. The metallic rear body works to give the gadgets a premium look. Android’s Marshmallow finds itself running the show with hundreds of apps to help the user. The X is a wee bit different from the XA; the X is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor while the XA gets the MediaTek octa-core MT6755 processor. What’s a Sony device without a mind-blowing camera, right? Users won’t be disappointed with the X’s 23MP primary shooter, and the 13MP secondary shooter, or even the XA’s 13MP primary camera, and the 8MP secondary one.

Alcatel has an epiphany. It is called a handle. However, this epiphany is not exactly “portable” as it comes attached to a humongous 17.3” screen with a display resolution of 1920x1080p. This tablet is good for media use but not if you need to carry it everywhere, everyday. Its Octa-core MediaTek MT8783T processor clocks a speed of 1.5 GHz to give you amazing multi tasking experience and 32 GB internal storage. It gets its juice from 10000mAh non removable battery. To keep you in touch with the online world (which you can’t live without!) it graces itself with Wi-fi, Bluetooth and GPS. What’s more? It also has some amazing sensors such as ambient light sensor, gyroscope and proximity sensor.

Have you ever felt like there was someone constantly whispering instructions into your ears? Well, the explanation for that will now be Xperia Ear, and not hallucinations! Sony’s next big product is the soft silicone based gadget that can act on your voice commands, read out the news, tells you the weather, etc. Just say what you need to this mini assistant, and it will deliver! May it be giving a call, dictating a text message or playing your favourite song, it will do it all.

It’s a desktop…it’s a laptop…it’ssss the HP’s Elite x3! Okay, that was a bad Superman reference. However, HP is giving the world a super Windows 10 Smartphone that can be used as a desktop replacement using the Desk Dock. This dock includes a DisplayPort, two USB-A ports, a USB-C port, and a wired Ethernet port. That’s not all; using the 12.5” wireless Mobile Extender, you can turn your Smartphone into a laptop! With Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4GB RAM, 64GB of internal memory, and a powerful 4,150mAh battery, you know you do have a Super machine in your hands!
Phew! That was a lot of smartness for one day, wasn’t it? BUT BUT BUT! There’s more to come from the world of MWC, so keep watching this page for more!
