The highlight of the phone is that it carries design language which is very similar to that of iPhone X. So, you get an iPhone X lookalike at affordable price. In addition to the good looks, the phone also packs good specifications. However, as we are aware that the mid-range smartphone segment is extremely crowded, the Motorola P30 is expected to face stiff competition from several counterparts. Two of its biggest competitors will be Oppo F9 and Lenovo Z5. Let us compare the three phones in terms of specifications along with the price in order to find out which provides the better value for money to the buyers. The comparison will be based on several parameters like Display, OS, Processor, Camera, Battery etc.

Motorola P30 vs Oppo F9 vs Lenovo Z5: Design and Display

As mentioned earlier, the recently launched Motorola P30 looks very identical to the high priced iPhone X. It features the similar notch at the top of the display (notably, the trend also started with iPhone X) along with a glass back with gradient colour design. The rear of the device hosts vertically stacked dual camera situated at the top left corner just like iPhone X. It bears a 6.2-inch full-HD+ IPS LCD panel with 1080×2246 pixel resolution and an 18.7:9 aspect ratio.

On the other hand, the Oppo F9 also features a notch at the top of the display, however the notch has a unique water drop like design which is slim instead of the typical rectangular shape. It sports a 6.3-inch LTPS TFT full-HD+ display with 1080×2340 pixel resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio resulting into 90.8 percent screen-to-body ratio.

While the Lenovo Z5 looks average in terms of design as compared to Motorola P30 and Oppo F9. It sports a 6.2-inch full-HD+ IPS display with 1080×2246 pixel resolution and 18.7:9 aspect ratio resulting into 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. The display has 2.5D curved glass on top.

So, in terms of design the Motorola P30 is a clear winner. In the display department, all three phones seem to be almost at par but Oppo F9 offers a better screen-to-body ratio of 90.8 percent as compared to the other two.

In terms of dimensions, the Motorola P30 measures 155.50 x 75.95 x 7.69 mm and weighs in at 170 grams, while the Oppo F9 measures 156.70 x 74.00 x 7.90 mm and weighs about 169 grams. The Lenovo Z5 measures 153.00 x 75.65 x 7.85 mm and is lightest of the three with weight of about 165 grams.

The Motorola P30 runs Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out of the box with custom ZUI 4.0 on top. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC clocked at 1.8GHz along with 6GB of RAM. There are two options available in terms of onboard storage- 64GB and 128GB. The storage is expandable up to 256GB via microSD card.

The Oppo F9 is shipped with Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box with Oppo’s own  ColorOS 5.2 on top. Under the hood, the phone is backed by MediaTek Helio P60 SoC with ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU for graphics and 4GB or 6GB of RAM. It offers 64GB of inbuilt storage with an option to extend further up to 256GB using a microSD card.

The Lenovo Z5 runs Android 8.1 Oreo OS out of the box and is fueled by an octa core Snapdragon 636 SoC coupled with 6GB of RAM. The onboard storage capacity options are 64GB and 128GB and it features a Hybrid Dual-SIM slot for further expansion of storage.

All three phones are almost at par in this department and there is no clear winner here.

Recently laucnhed Motorola P30 is backed by a 3,000mAh capacity battery with 18W TurboCharge fast charging support. The Lenovo Z5 packs a 3,300mAh capacity battery with fast charging support. While, the Oppo F9 is fueled by a slightly better 3,500mAh capacity battery with VOOC Flash Charge support that can deliver up to two hours of talk time from just 5 minutes of charging as claimed by the company.

So, Oppo F9 is a clear winner in terms of battery backup.

In terms of optics, the Motorola P30 is equipped with a dual rear camera set up consisting of 16-megapixel primary sensor (f/1.8 aperture) and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor (f/2.2 aperture) with PDAF, dual-tone LED flash and full-HD video recording capabilities. The front hosts a 12-megapixel snapper with f/2.0 aperture and AR capabilities for selfies and video calls.

The Oppo F9 has a dual rear camera setup that consists of a 16-megapixel primary sensor along with an f/1.8 aperture and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor with an f/2.4 aperture and LED flash. For selfies, there’s an impressive 25-megapixel sensor along with an f/2.0 aperture and high dynamic range (HDR) capability.

Lenovo Z5 bears also features a dual camera set up on the rear comprising of 16-megapixel primary rear camera sensor and an 8-megapixel secondary sensor. The rear camera set up comes with Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities. While the front hosts an 8-megapixel selfie sensor with f/2.0 aperture.

In terms of rear camera, all three phones score equal but the Oppo F9 has an impressive 25MP front camera for selfie lovers.

Last but not the least, let’s compare the pricing of the three phones. The Motorola P30 has not yet been launched in India but in China it comes with a starting price tag of CNY 2,099, which is roughly Rs. 21,100. OPPO F9 is also yet to hit the Indian market but it was launched in Vietnam priced at VND 7,990,000, which roughly translates to Rs.24,000. While, Lenovo Z5 is the most starts at CNY 1,299 yuan, which is approximately Rs.13,300, making it the most affordable phone out of the three.

As seen in the above comparison, all three phones score equal in several aspects. But the Lenovo Z5 has a better value proposition due to its lowest price tag. The Motorola P30 will be a good option for those who would like to carry an iPhone X like design at an affordable price. While, the Oppo F9 is for selfie lovers, thanks to its 25MP selfie snapper. In addition the Oppo F9 also has a good battery back up as compared to the other two.
