Teacher’s Day celebrations in India on 5th September each year makes each one of us spare a few moments in recollecting our teachers. Surely some teachers must have left a lasting impression on us. Considering the fact that education plays an important role in grooming an individual and the teachers being the ones who impart education play a much greater role.
On the eve of Teacher’s Day, a few motivating reads on teacher student relationship could be an apt tribute to them and to education as well.

To Sir, With Love written by E. R. Braithwaite

to sir
A touching novel written by E. R. Braithwaite recounting his teaching experience at a school based in London. Having opted to teach post his retirement from the military, he involuntarily applied for the job and was assigned to teach secondary school students. As expected the task seemed tough and nearly impossible to achieve, nevertheless the persistence and patience of E. R. Braithwaite worked wonderfully. Right from treating the students with patience and giving them the space to learn and perform, he earns their trust and acceptance. A very popular read, the movie adaption of the book with Sidney Poiter in the main role was released in 1967.
His other works include – Billingsly: The Bear with the Crinkled Ear, Honorary White, Choice of Straws and A Kind of Homecoming

There Are No Shortcuts by Author: Rafe Esquith

Teaching is passion for some and one of those is Rafe Esquith, a teacher at a innercity school in L.A. which has most of its students ( mostly fifth graders) from economically backward or troubled families. Nevertheless, he deals with them with the zeal to give them a chance to lead a better life. What goes into his teaching style – kindness, understanding especially fun. The kids in his class spend a major part of the day at regular school with him and field trips organized during vacations.
It’s hard to come across a fiercely idealist teacher such as Rafe who leaves no stone unturned to educate the future generation in the best possible manner.
