Microsoft Opens Its Windows For Newer Smartphones – Lumia 950 And 950 XLby Rajshree Faria December 1, 2015
Fan of Windows 10, but don’t wish to carry your laptop around for it? Well, Microsoft understands this dilemma of yours and showing its considerate side, launched its flagship Windows 10 smartphones, the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL, in India.
Considered to be one of the best iterations of the OS so far, Windows 10 will not only grace these smartphones, but also any monitor you attach it to…say what???
Yep, you read it right. Let us illuminate you on the latest Lumias… Microsoft is giving away a FREE Microsoft Display Dock worth Rs. 5,999 to all the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL buyers. Now why would they want to do that? As we said, they are considerate and it’s a good promotion tactic.
Thanks to Continuum, the digital continuity system, the user can use their smartphone for a PC-like experience on an external monitor. If you are worried about a lag in viewing your emails on the bigger screen, you needn’t be, as there is a 60 FPS refresh rate to keep your screen flicker free.
Wait, it gets better. The user can keep using their smartphone to make calls, send texts, and do whatever else they want with their smartphone while it is connected to the Display Dock, thereby not limiting the utility of the smartphone.
Enough said about the Windows 10 platform. Let’s discuss the quintessential specs of these smartphones. The Lumia 950 will sport a 5.2” display and will be powered by a robust Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor with hexa-core CPUs. The Lumia 950 XL will sport a larger 5.7” display, hence the ‘XL’, and a Snapdragon 810 processor with octa-core CPUs. Sounds fancy, doesn’t it?
Microsoft has left no stone unturned when it comes to the cameras on the Lumia 950s; both will come with 20-megapixel cameras with OIS so there are no blurred pictures, just beautiful memories being captured. The triple flashes will ensure that even night shots get the clarity they deserve.
With 4K videos, high-definition will reach a whole new level of awesomeness! Although the smartphones will come with only 32GB of internal memory, Microsoft has stated that the user can expand the memory by up to a massive 2TB using a memory card. Needless to say, both these smartphones will support 4G connectivity.
What’s more? Your new personal assistant Cortana is smarter and will know you better every passing day. Cortana will learn your working habits, your requirements and will provide you with significant and helpful information whenever you require it.
Security on the Lumias is taken seriously; both incorporate Windows Hello, a biometric security sign in option brought by Windows 10. You can use your face, iris or fingerprints as your password to log in to your devices. Power hungry users will be happy to know that these smartphones will use the USB Type C connecters for charging, with the smartphone reaching 50% charge in less than 30 minutes!
Admirers of this Microsoft endeavour will be able to get their hands on these handsets come December 11. All good things come with a price and so do these new Lumia devices; the Lumia 950 is priced at Rs 43,699, and the Lumia 950 XL will set you back by Rs 49,399. Knowing the kind of versatility the flagships provide, this price is worth considering.
