One of the most successful Indian smartphone brand Micromax is said to be working on an affordable smartphone. As per Factor Daily, Micromax will be the first domestic brand to embrace Android Oreo Go Edition, which is the watered-down version meant for budget hardware. Other domestic brands such as Lava, Intex, and Karbonn will follow the suite.
The same source also confirms that Micromax’s first phone will be priced under Rs 2,000. The aggressive pricing will help feature phone users jump on the smartphone bandwagon. At this point, we don’t know the specifications of the phone. Micromax has the option to choose from Qualcomm and MediaTek, as both chip makers have optimised their chipsets for Android Oreo Go Edition.
A few days ago, it was reported that HMD is also working on an Android Oreo Go Edition device Nokia 1. It seems that after bringing down the smartphone prices to Rs 5000, manufacturers will be fighting for sub 2k smartphone markestshare in 2018.
