LG V40 Thinq vs Sony Xperia XZ3 vs Huawei P20 Pro: Design and Display
The LG V40 Thinq looks different as it sports an unusual triple rear camera set up as opposed to the usual dual or single camera set up on the back. The phone is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance and features Military-grade build (MIL-STD-810 certification). The Xepria XZ3 and Huawei P20 Pro as well feature a premium build quality. The P20 Pro has IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.
All three phones come with tall displays. The LGV40 Thinq sports a 6.4-inch QHD+ OLED FullVision display panel with screen resolution of 1440×3120 pixels and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The display has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 layer of protection on top. The Xperia XZ3 sports a 6.0-inch Quad HD+ OLED Display with 2880×1440 pixel resolution, HDR support and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The display has a notch at the top and features Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection against scratches. While the Huawei P20 Pro bears a 5.8-inch full-HD+ RGBW FullView display with 1080×2244 pixel resolution. So, the LG V40 Thinq has a comparatively larger and better display as compared to the other two.
In terms of dimensions, the LG V40 Thinq measures 158.7×75.8×7.79 mm and weighs 169 grams. The Xperia XZ3 measures 158x73X9.90 mm and weighs about 193 grams. Whereas the P20 Pro measures 155×73.9×7.8 mm and weighs in at 155 grams.

The V40 Thiq is shipped with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and is fueled by a 3,330mAh battery which comes with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and wireless charging.
The P20 Pro runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box topped with company’s own EMUI 8.1. The battery capacity of the phone is higher at 4000mAh with SuperCharge fast charging support, but it lacks support for wireless charging.
The Sony Xperia XZ3 is the only phone out of the three that runs Android 9 Pie software update and is backed by a 3300mAh battery with Qi wireless charging support.

Under the hood, the LG V40 Thinq is powered by a flagship octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC along with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of onboard storage, which is expandable up to 2TB using a microSD card.
The Xperia XZ3 also draws power from octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC paired with 4GB or 6GB of RAM. The inbuilt storage capacity of the device is 64GB with an option to expand via microSD card.
The Huawei P20 Pro is backed by an octa-core Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC clocked at 2.36GHz along with a dedicated NPU (neural processing unit), 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.
In terms of performance, the Xperia XZ3 and LG V40 Thinq are almost at par. However, the P20 Pro also doesn’t lag behind much. So, there is no clear winner here.

Both LG V40 Thinq and Huawei P20 Pro sport a unique triple camera set up on the rear and dual camera set up on the front but vary in terms of configuration.
The LG V40 Thinq bears a horizontally stacked triple rear camera set up comprising of 12-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.5 aperture + secondary 16-megapixel ultra-wide angle sensor with f/1.9 aperture + a third 12-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens and f/2.4 aperture. For selfies, there’s a dual camera set up comprising of 8-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.9 aperture + a 5-megapixel wide-angle secondary sensor with f/2.2 aperture.
The vertically stacked triple camera set up in the Huawei P20 Pro consists of an 8-megapixel primary sensor with 3x optical zoom + a 40-megapixel secondary sensor + a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor. The front hosts a 24-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calls.
The Sony Xperia XZ3 features a pretty simple camera set up of 19MP single rear camera followed by a single 13MP fornt camera for selfies.
Of course, the Xperia XZ3 loses the battle here as the LG V40 Thiq and the P20 Pro are beasts in terms of camera configuration. Although, the camera performance is not just about mega pixels and there are other factors to be taken into consideration as well, the V40 Thinq seems to be a winner in the camera department with its unique and impressive five camera set up.

The Huawei P20 Pro is the only device which is currently available in India with a price tag of Rs. 64,999. The LG V40 Thinq price in US starts at USD 899.99 which is roughly Rs. 66,500. It comes in four colour options- Aurora Black, Moroccan Blue, Platinum Gray and Carmine Red. The Xperia XZ3 expected price in India is around Rs. 75,000. However, you will need to wait for a while for these two phones to go on sale in India.

In terms of pricing, all three phones are in the similar range of Rs. 70,000-Rs. 75,000, so there is no differentiating factor there unless you are too tight on budget which usually isn’t the case when it comes to high priced phones.
For the camera buffs, the LG V40 Thinq is a good option followed by the Huawei P20 Pro. In terms of performance both P20 Pro and V40 Thinq are almost at par. While, in terms of battery, the P20 Pro seems to be a good option as it features an impressive 4,000mAh battery.
