Huawei P9: The Best Smartphone To Reinvent Professional Photographyby Ryan Dsouza August 19, 2016
Unveiled in China back in April this year, Huawei has now decided to launch its flagship handset, the P9 in India. The Chinese handset maker joined hands with Leica to build a one-of-its-kind dual-lens camera meant to shoot the most stunning images and videos.
5.2 inch IPS display
Android 6.0 Marshmallow
Octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 955 chipset 3 GB RAM
32 GB of internal storage
12 MP primary camera
8 MP secondary camera
3000 mAh battery
Alright! Now that you know what lies inside, let’s get back to the most crucial part, the camera. Well, what big deal about the camera, you may ask. It’s no ordinary camera. The camera has been designed by Leica, the company best known for building top-notch and lightweight cameras.
It consists of two sensors, monochrome and RGB, combining the colours taken by RGB with the details of the monochrome sensor. The hybrid focus technology lets you take finest quality images with incredibly high speed, clarity and depth.
In case you are a part-time photographer who loves capturing a few random moments now and then, the Huawei P9 may excite you. You can access a powerful set of unique functions such as film modes, wide aperture effect and professional mode, which lets you edit your images without compromising their quality.
The Huawei P9 is powered by the Kirin 955 chipset, which happens to be a higher version of the Kirin 950 found in Mate 8. The octa-core CPU comprises of 4 Cortex-A72 and 4 Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.5 GHz and 1.8 GHz respectively. Interestingly, the chip also comes with the Mali-T880 MP4 GPU, which makes the phone a perfect choice for gamers.
Talking about the physical aspects of this device, it weighs 144g and is 6.9 mm thick. There are no physical control buttons below the screen. On the right lie the power button and the volume rocker. The SIM tray is placed on the left, while the microphone port, headphone jack, speaker grill and the USB type-C charging port can be found at the top. Amazingly, the bezel is just 1.7 mm thick, which gives the screen an edge-to-edge feel.
The dual camera is located on the rear, at the top, contained within a black band. Just below it is the fingerprint scanner, which can be used to unlock the phone by simply placing the finger on it.
The device runs on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but with Huawei’s Emotion UI 4.1. In case you are not quite aware of the Emotion UI, it’s quite different from the stock Android in terms of both look as well as feel. A redesigned settings page, desktop folders and colourful square icons are something that may take you by surprise if you have been using stock Android and just making a switch to the Emotion UI.
So, that’s pretty much it. Wait. Did we talk about the price? The handset is expected to cost you Rs. 39,999. With that being said, should you go for it? Well, if capturing stunning images and playing high-end games is something that’s right on top of your list, Huawei P9 definitely won’t disappoint you.
