
Huawei P30 Pro vs Huawei P20 Pro: Check out what’s new in the latest flagship
China-based smartphone brand Huawei recently took the wraps off its latest flagship series consisting of Huawei P30 and P30 Pro smartphones at an event held in Paris. One of these phones, the Huawei P30 Pro, will go on sale in India soon as a dedicated page for the same has already gone live on eCommerce site Amazon.in. which also means that the P30 may not come to India. It is also being speculated that the company may launch Huawei P30 Lite instead of Huawei P30. The highlights of the Huawei P30 Pro include HiSilicon 7nm Kirin 980, 6.47-inch full-HD+ OLED display and a 4,200mAh capacity battery with support for 40W fast-charging as well as 15W wireless fast charging. The P30 Pro has quite a few new features to offer, and many of them come from the Mate series. Today, we’ll compare the P30 Pro with its predecessor i.e. Huawei P20 Pro in order to find out how worthy is the new phone.
The comparison will be based on several software, hardware and other parameters such as RAM, Processor, Design, Display, Battery Capacity, Camera Configuration, OS and Price.
Huawei P30 Pro vs Huawei P20 Pro: Design and Display
In terms of design, the P30 Pro and P20 Pro have a lot of similarities but a few differences as well. The P30 Pro features a slightly curved display on the sides as also seen in Mate 20 Pro, while the P20 Pro features a completely flat screen. Both the phones feature a notch at the top of the display, however the P30 Pro has a small water drop shaped notch while the P20 Pro features a slightly wide (not as wide as iPhone X though) notch. The P30 Pro sports an in-display fingerprint scanner, while the P20 Pro features a scanner placed under the display which takes up valuable space that could have been used for the display to increase the overall screen-to-body ratio. On the back, both the phones look appealing with striking finishes along with vertically stacked triple camera set up. In terms of build, the P20 Pro is IP67-rated for resistance against water and dust, while the P30 Pro is slightly more tough due to its IP68 rating.
In terms of display, the Huawei P30 Pro sports a 6.47-inch Full HD+ curved OLED display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 2340×1080 screen resolution and Huawei’s Acoustic technology that vibrates screen to produce sound. The display comes with a tiny dewdrop notch at the top which offers a near full-screen experience. While the P20 Pro features a 6.1-inch P-OLED Full HD+ display with a screen resolution of 2240×1080 pixels. It has an 18.7:9 widescreen with a slightly wide notch at the top.
In terms of dimensions, the Huawei P30 Pro measures 158 × 73.4 × 8.41 mm and weighs in at 192 grams, while the P20 Pro 155 × 73.9 × 7.8 mm and weighs about 174 grams. So, the P20 Pro is slimmer as well as lighter as compared to its successor

The Huawei P30 Pro is powered by the latest in-house HiSilicon 7nm Kirin 980 chipset along with 8GB of RAM. There are three options in terms of internal storage- 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. On the other hand, the P20 Pro comes equipped with a Kirin 970 SoC along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage in India.

The Huawei P20 Pro packs a 4,000mAh battery with Super Charge fast-charging technology support, while the P30 Pro is backed by a slightly higher 4,200mAh battery with support for 40W fast-charging. In addition, the P30 Pro also gets support for 15W wireless fast charging.
Huawei P30 Pro vs Huawei P20 Pro: Software
The Huawei P30 Pro is shipped with Google’s latest Android 9.0 Pie operating system out of the box with company’s own EMUI 9.1 on top. The new version features a one-touch video editor, an AR measurement app and several motion tracking goodies that are made possible by the TOF camera on its back. The P20 also runs the same Android 9.0 Pie OS out of the box but its skin is EMUI 9.0 instead of 9.1.

The Huawei P30 Pro sports a vertically quad camera set up on the back, while the P20 Pro features a triple camera set up and they differ a lot in terms of configuration. The P30 Pro comprises of a 40-megapixel SuperSpectrum primary sensor with an f/1.6 aperture, a 20MP ultra-wide-angle secondary sensor with an f/2.2 aperture + an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x zoom + a fourth Time-of-Flight (ToF) lens for depth sensing. Whereas the Huawei P20 Pro sports a quad camera set up consisting of a 40MP primary colour sensor with a f/1.8 aperture + a 20MP monochrome sensor with a f/1.6 aperture + a third 8MP sensor with a f/1.8 aperture and 3x optical zoom lens. For selfies, the Huawei P30 Pro comes equipped with a 32MP sensor and the P20 Pro comes equipped with 24MP sensor which can click images with background blur in iPhone X like portrait modes.
Huawei P30 Pro vs Huawei P20 Pro: Price
Huawei P30 Pro is yet to be launched in India. As mentioned earlier, it is expected to be launched in the country by next week as a dedicated page has gone live on eCommerce giant Amazon.in wherein interested buyers can set notification alert. The launch date and pricing details have not yet been revealed though. On the other hand, the Huawei P20 Pro was launched in India at a price tag of Rs 64,999 but is currently trading around Rs. 60,000.

Without any surprise, the Huawei P30 Pro is the better of the two device and is a worthy successor of Huawei P20 Pro as it comes with bigger screen, better power along with memory and has an impressive quad camera set up. In terms of design as well it scores more over its predecessor. Although you’ll have to shell out more money for Huawei P30 Pro as compared to Huawei P20 Pro, but it will definitely be worth considering the upgrades that you’ll be getting in return. Overall, the P30 Pro is a good value proposition.
