Huawei P20 and P20 ProOn 27th April, Huawei launched several new smartphones at an event held in Paris. The devices are dubbed as Huawei P20, Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei Porsche Design Mate RS. Almost all the specs were as speculated earlier based on the leaks. Both P20 and P20 Pro sport an iPhone X like notch and feature an advanced camera. Huawei claims that its notch is smaller in size compared to the iPhone X which allows a bigger screen-to-body ratio of around 90%. The key difference is that the P20 comes with a dual camera setup whereas the P20 Pro comes with a triple camera setup placed at the rear of the device.

Pricing and Availability:

The P20 comes with a price tag of EUR 649 (roughly Rs 52,200) and has already gone on sale in Europe. Whereas, the P20 Pro comes with a higher price tag of EUR 899 (approx. Rs 72,200) and will go on sale from 6th April. The Porsche Design Mate RS starts with even more premium price of EUR 1695 (roughly Rs. 136,525) and goes up to EUR 2095 (roughly Rs. 168,743), which makes it the company’s costliest smartphone till date and it is even costlier than iPhone X.

The Huawei P20 sports a 5.8-inch Full HD+ (2244×1080) IPS display with 2,240 x 1,080 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, there’s Kirin 970 octa-core processor with a focus on AI, 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. There is no microSD card though. It has a dual camera setup at the rear with 12MP primary RGB camera, f/1.6 aperture, OIS, and 4-way autofocus and 20MP monochrome camera with f/1.6 aperture. The front hosts a 24MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. The battery capacity of the device is 3,400 mAh. It ships with EMUI 8.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. In terms of dimensions, the phone measures 149.1×70.8×7.65mm and weighs 165 grams.

Huawei P20 Pro Specifications:

The Huawei P20 Pro features a 6.1-inch Full HD+ (2244×1080) AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio.  The device is powered by an octa-core Kirin 970 chipset along with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage but without the microSD card slot. It runs EMUI 8.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.

The highlight of P20 Pro is its Leica triple camera setup with a 40MP primary RGB camera with f/1.8 aperture, a OIS, dual-LED flash, and 4-way autofocus, a 20MP monochrome camera with f/1.6 aperture, and an 8MP camera with telephoto lens, 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom. In terms of dimensions, the P20 Pro measures 155.0×73.9×7.8mm and weighs 180 grams.

Other Common Features of P20 and P20 Pro:

Both P20 and P20 Pro will support Google’s ARCore for advanced augmented reality capabilities. The phones are made out of glass and are IP67 certified for dust and water resistance. Both the P20 and P20 Pro sport a home button on the front that houses a fingerprint sensor. There’s support for fast charging, thanks to company’s SuperCharge technology. There’s also support for USB Type-C port for charging, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11ac. The selfie camera in both the phones comes with AI beautification and 3D portrait lighting.

Huawei Porsche Design Mate RS

Huawei has teamed up with Porsche Design to create a luxury smartphone Huawei Porsche Design Mate RS (Race Sport). It comes in Black and Red colour options. The base model features 6GB RAM + 256GB internal storage whereas the top model features 6GB RAM + 512GB internal storage. It sports a 6-inch FullView display (without the notch) with 2880×1440 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The device is powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin 970 chipset and runs Android 8.1 Oreo OS out-of-the-box.

In terms of optics, there’s a triple camera setup at the back40MP RGB sensor, 20MP monochrome, and an 8MP telephoto lens with 3X optical zoom. At the front, there’s a 24MP selfie camera.

In terms of connectivity, there’s dual SIM with 4G VoLTE, GPS/GLONASS/BDS, WiFi, USB Type C port and Bluetooth 4.2. The device has NFC and a massive 4000 mAh battery with quick wireless charging support, making it the first Huawei phone to do so. Company has added a fingerprint sensor at the rear but there’s also in-display fingerprint sensor which is for the first time in a Huawei smartphone.

The Huawei Porsche Design Mate RS is IP67 certified for dust and water resistant, so rainy day photography is nothing to worry about.

Availability in India:

There is no update yet about the launch of the devices in India. Huawei usually doesn’t launch its flagships in India. Instead, the company prefers to launch the mid-range Honor smartphones. However, the P20 series is expected to be an exception (especially due to the ban in US) and we may see the India launch soon with aggressive price tags.
