Huawei Mate 20 Series Launched

Earlier this year, Huawei introduced its latest P series handsets and now the company has unveiled its latest Mate series of smartphones which consists of four phones dubbed as the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X and the limited edition Mate 20 RS Porsche. All four phones were unveiled at an event held by the company in London yesterday. The Mate 20 series will come loaded with flagship-like specs and compete with the likes of iPhone XS and Galaxy Note 9. Some of the highlights of the phones are Leica-tuned triple rear camera set up, 40W Huawei SuperCharge technology and flagship HiSilicon Kirin 980 7nm SoC with dual AI processor. The only other chipset based on the 7nm process is Apple’s A12 Bionic that powers the latest iPhones like iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. Notably, the Kirin 980 is the world’s first processor built around ARM’s Cortex-A76 CPU and Mali-G76 GPU.

 

Huawei Mate 20 Price, Features and Specifications:

The Huawei Mate 20 sports a 6.53-inch full-HD+ RGBW display with screen resolution of 1080×2244 pixels and aspect ratio of 18.7:9 resulting into 88.07 percent screen-to-body ratio. The display features a water drop like notch at the top which houses the selfie camera. The phone runs EMUI 9.0 on top of Android 9.0 Pie operating system out of the box and is fueled by a 4,000mAh battery with support for new 40W Huawei SuperCharge technology. In the camera department, you get triple rear camera set up consisting of a 16-megapixel ultra wide angle primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture + a secondary 12-megapixel wide angle sensor with f/1.8 aperture + a tertiary 8-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture.  On the front, there’s a 24-megapixel shooter with f/2.0 aperture for selfies and video calls. In terms of storage, there are two options available for the buyers- 4GB RAM + 128GB onboard storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB onboard storage. For security purpose, the Mate 20 features a rear mounted fingerprint sensor. For connectivity purpose, there’s 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, and a USB Type-C port.

Talking about the pricing, the 4GB RAM + 128GB storage variant is priced at EUR 799 (roughly Rs. 67,850) and the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage is priced at EUR 849 (roughly Rs. 62,200). The phone has already gone on sale in the UK, France and Itlay starting from yesterday i.e. October 16.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro Price, Features and Specifications:

The difference between the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro is that the latter features an in-display fingerprint scanner as opposed to the rear mounted Another one. difference is that the Mate 20 Pro features a wider iPhone X like display notch instead of the water drop shaped notch found in Mate 20. Under the hood, the phone is powered by Kirin 980 SoC coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB inbuilt storage. For memory expansion, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro comes with something called a nanoSD card, a new format from Huawei.

The Mate 20 Pro sports a 6.39-inch curved OLED display with a QHD+ resolution of 3120×1440 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 resulting into 86.9 percent screen-to-body ratio. It comes with IP68 certification for resistance against water and dust. The device runs same EMUI 9.0 on top of Android 9.0 Pie, but is backed by a slightly higher 4,200mAh battery with 15W fast wireless charging support. Connectivity options included in the phone are 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, and a USB Type-C port. Unfortunately, the 3.5mm headphone jack is missing in Mate 20 Pro.

For the camera buffs, there’s a primary 40-megapixel wide angle lens with f/1.8 aperture + a 20-megapixel ultra wide angle secondary sensor with f/2.2 aperture + third 8-megapixel 3X telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. For selfies and video calls, there’s a 24-megapixel RGB sensor on the front. The selfie camera also doubles up as 3D Face Unlock similar to the iPhone XS. In addition, it also comes with 3D Live Emoji, with support for GIF and MP4 files.

The Mate 20 Pro will come with a price tag of EUR 1049 (roughly Rs. 89,300). The five colour options available for the buyers are Emerald Green, Midnight Blue, Twiligh Pink, Gold and Black.

Huawei Mate 20 X Price, Features and Specifications:

The Mate 20 X has similar features like that of Mate 20 but of course there are some differences. One of the biggest differences is the screen size i.e. the Mate 20 X sports a massive 7.12-inch FHD+OLED display with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. It also features an impressive 5000mAh battery. The phone comes with an IP53 certification for resistance against water and dust. It also supports pen input though Huawei’s M Pen.

The Mate 20 X comes in single variant i.e. 6GB RAM + 128GB onboard storage and is priced at EUR 899 (roughly Rs. 76,400). It will start selling in Europe starting from October 26.

Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Price, Features and Specifications:

As mentioned earlier, the Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche is an ultra premium limited edition of Mate 20 Pro and packs same set of specifications except for storage. However, it comes with updated design i.e. clad in leather with a vertical strip of glass in the centre, unique Black color and a dominant Porsche logo on the back. It is priced at EUR 1695 (roughly Rs. 1,44,000) for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage and EUR 2095 (roughly Rs. 1,78,000) for the 8GB RAM + 512GB storage. It has already gone on sale in Europe from October 16.

Alongside the Mate 20 series, Huawei also launched a new fitness-focused smartwatch dubbed the Watch GT. The company has gone for the Lite OS to maximize battery life. The Watch GT is compatible with both iOS as well as Android. However, it lacks an app store.
