HP Envy 4 – Still Going Strong

Earlier this Year HP added a brand new member to its envy series – the HP Envy 4 TouchSmart powered by Microsoft Windows 8 and sporting a decent 14-inch glossy touchscreen. It is a standard laptop, but there is something about it that makes you say, “It’s different”. The gadget is just 0.9 inch thick which makes it one of the thinnest laptops around.

HP Envy 4Key Features

  • 14 inch touchscreen display
  • Microsoft Windows 8 OS
  • Intel Core i5-3317U processor
  • Intel HD Graphics 4000
  • 500 GB hard drive

When it comes to looks, HP has always been quite consistent, and the Envy 4 TouchSmart seems to be no different. The lid is covered with aluminium plates while the bottom-half is constructed out of plastic and has a rubberized paint coating which further add  up to its appeal and durability.

The laptop weighs around 2.1kg which makes it much lighter than the other laptops available with a similar configuration. Most of the internal hardware components have been moved to the front, which will prevent the laptop from flipping while you touch the screen.

The laptop features 14-inch touch display with a 1366 x 768 resolution. The sensitivity of the touchscreen is highly impressive. Viewing angles won’t disappoint you. However, you my witness a slight color shift while you bend the screen forward.

The HP Envy 4 TouchSmart features almost every port you would probably want your laptop to have. It houses 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port and a standard HDMI port. A folding ethernet jack is located on the left. However, it lacks a VGA port. So, connecting external monitors is not possible.

The laptop is powered by the Intel Core i5-3317U processor teamed up with 4 GB of RAM. With 500 GB of hard drive on board, you have enough space to dump in all your crucial data. The battery lasts for a little over 4 hours which may not seem quite impressive.

The Verdict
A powerful processor, sufficient storage space, the latest operating system, and above all a touchscreen could be considered as the USP of HP Envy 4. You would hardly ask for anything more. Talking about the design, it might not be something out-of-the-world but surely is an innovative one. So, an overall rating of 9 on 10 seems quite fair enough.
