Honor has just launched a new affordable tablet in China called the Honor Tab 5. While the demand for Android based tablets has been on the decline and not many companies are manufacturing it, Honor has done just the opposite. The Huawei sub-brand has launched the tablet in four configurations. Among these, there are two with cellular connectivity and two without it.

The non-cellular models will be offered at a retail price starting 1099 Yuan for a configuration of 3GB RAM complemented with 32GB of internal storage. The 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant will come with a price tag of 1299 Yuan. In the cellular model category, the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant will come at a price of 1399 Yuan while the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage will be priced at 1499 Yuan.

The Honor Tab 5 will be available for purchase in China from the 12th of March.

Honor Tab 5 Specifications

The Honor Tab 5 sports an 8-inch IPS LCD display. It is a Full HD resolution display. Most other tablets in this price range offer only an HD resolution display and hence the tablet brings along unique value. Honor has also offered a stereo speaker at the top and the bottom of the tablet each. The company plans to ensure that the tablet can render an immersive multimedia experience for its users. As for the camera department, the Tab 5 is equipped with an 8MP rear and an 8MP front-facing camera. The rear camera will come with an autofocus feature, while the front-facing camera does not. The cameras on both sides will come with full support for Full HD recording.

The Honor Tab 5 is powered by the Kirin 710 SoC processor which comes with four power-efficient Cortex-A53 cores, four high-performance Cortex-A73 cores, and Mali G51 GPU. This chipset can offer a stutter-free performance on devices with Full HD screen. Honor has also powered the tablet with GPU Turbo to enable its users to enjoy a seamless gaming experience and better graphics.

The Huawei sub-brand has enabled users to choose their preferred configuration from among 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage configurations. The tablet also facilitates expansion of memory through a microSD card slot. The Honor has used LPDDR4X RAM modules which make it significantly faster and extremely power efficient when compared to the LPDDR3 chips that power most other tablets in the budget range. As for its operating system, the tablet runs smoothly on Android 9 Pie. The OS has the latest Magic UI 2.0 user interface customization. The tablet is powered by a battery of capacity 5100mAh.

The cellular variant, unlike the Apple iPads, enables users to make calls. As for the connectivity options, the tablet offers dual-band Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, a micro-USB port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. While the Honor Tab 5 lacks a fingerprint scanner, it offers secure access through a face unlock feature.
