Honor Magic 2 3DChina-based handset maker Honor had launched Honor Magic 2 in China last year and now the company has launched a slightly upgraded 3D variant of the phone which represents nothing but a 3D camera at the front with enhanced Face Unlock by using a structured light 3D scanner, which essentially employs a high-frequency light sensor that works with the same principles as that of a Lidar (light detection and ranging) sensor. The company had recently teased the phone via social media channels in China.

The Honor Magic 2 3D comes with a price tag of 5,799 Yuan which roughly translates to Rs. 60,000 in India. The phone has already gone on sale in China via multiple channels including V-Mall.

The Honor Magic 2 3D sports 6.39-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution of 1080×2340 pixels, an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, 91.5 percent screen-to-body ratio and pixel density of 403 pixels per inch (ppi). The device draws power from 2.6GHz octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC based on 7nm manufacturing process. Further, there’s a graphene cooling pad to help maintain the phone’s performance over longer and complex working hours such as gaming or multi-tasking. This was first seen on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro phone from last year. In terms of memory, there’s 8GB of RAM, and 512GB inbuilt storage.

In terms of software, the phone runs Android 9 Pie operating system out of the box with Magic UI 2.0 customization. There’s a 3500mAh battery underneath with 40W fast charging via USB Type-C port. For security purpose, the phone features an in-display fingerprint scanner as well as 3D based Face Unlock feature which is more advanced and secured as compared to 2D based Face Unlock and it can face unlock the phone regardless of the lighting conditions. The phone is also compatible with Alipay’s face payment feature.

In the camera department, you get a triple rear camera module on the back which comprises of a 16-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 lens + a 24-megapixel monochrome sensor with an f/1.8 lens + a 16-megapixel third sensor with a super wide-angle f/2.2 lens. For selfies, there’s a sliding triple camera set up on the front consisting of a primary sensor of 16-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture that is assisted by a pair of 2-megapixel depth sensors with f/2.4 apertures. The rear camera can record 4K videos, while the front-facing camera can record Full HD videos.

For connectivity purpose, the Honor Magic 2 3D features 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS, A-GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. In terms of dimensions, the phone measures 157.32 x 75.13 x 8.3 mm and weighs about 206 grams.

Overall the Honor Magic 2 3D comes across as a good offering but unfortunately the chances of the phone making it to Indian market are very dim.
