Honor has announced a revolutionary technology called GPU Turbo and has subsequently launched the first ever smartphone that will use this technology. The smartphone – the Honor Play – will leverage GPU Turbo to enhance the gaming experience for the users of the smartphone. The basic hardware on the Honor Play is what powers the other phones of the Honor flagship. However, the differentiator is the underlying technology that empowers the device to offer a great gaming experience to its users.

The Honor Play is a gaming smartphone and its GPU Turbo technology augments the performance of the GPU remarkably. This is done by enhancing the graphics processing efficiency by up to 60%. The phone is believed to better the gaming performance of smartphones such as the Xiaomi Mi 8, iPhone X, and the Mi Mix 2S. The company claims that the Honor Play beats all these phones in terms of the frame rate and jitters.

The Honor Play offers a 4D gaming experience which is again powered by the GPU Turbo technology. The smartphone can make 4D gaming possible because it can detect gaming instances such as shots, explosions and quakes. As the smartphone is equipped with 3D sound experience, users would be able to clearly locate the angle of firing while playing a combat game.

The Honor Play is believed to feature a special film on its screen to reduce reflection due to light falling on the screen. This ensures that the gaming experience under light is significantly improved. It also enables seamless in-game network optimization which means that the user can shift his internet connectivity from Wi-Fi to mobile data without having to pause or stop the game. This helps to give the users an uninterrupted gaming experience.

As for its specifications, the Honor Play has a 6.3-inch FHD+ display. The resolution of the display is 2340 x 1080 pixels and it comprises a notch on top. The smartphone features a metallic back and comprises U shaped antenna lines. The dual cameras are located at the rear on the left side. Fingerprint sensor lies around the centre at the back. The rear dual camera setup is average, featuring a 16MP f/2.2 primary sensor that is complemented by a 2MP f/2.4 secondary depth sensor with support for AI shooting and AR gestures. The selfie camera features a 16MP f/2.0 sensor. The smartphone comes in three color options namely Nebula Purple, Aurora Blue, and Midnight Black.

The Honor Play is powered by the Kirin 970 chipset (Mali-G72 MP12) inside in two memory configurations that is expandable up to 256GB. The configurations are 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 64GB storage. The smartphone comes with a 3750mAh battery which can enable the user to spend an entire day playing games on the phone after it is completely charged. In terms of connectivity, it connects easily with Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi ac, and GPS. The Honor Play is powered by the EMUI 8.2 based on Android 8.1 OS.

As for its price, the Honor Play starts at US$312 for its 4GB + 64GB variant. This calculates to roughly Rs. 20,844. The 6GB + 64GB variant costs around US$ 375 which converts to a little over Rs 25,000. The Honor Play Cool limited edition with a special back design comes at a special price of US$ 390 which is a little more than Rs. 26,000.
