Huawei’s sub-brand Honor expanded its portfolio of budget smartphones with the launch of two phones in China dubbed as Honor 8X and Honor 8X Max. Both the phones come with thin bezels and notched displays, but the Honor 8X comes with an iPhone X like notch while the Honor 8X Max features waterdrop notch. Both the phones feature glass-panel finish there’s vertically stacked dual rear camera at the back on both the devices, which has AI support. In addition, there’s  Dolby Atmos surround sound backed stereo speakers for good sound output.

Honor 8X and Honor 8X Max Pricing:

The Honor 8x 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant is priced at CNY 1,399 (roughly Rs. 14,500), while the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant comes with a price tag of CNY 1,599 (roughly Rs. 16,500). The variant i.e. 6GB RAM + 128GB storage comes with a price tag of CNY 1,899 (roughly Rs. 19,700). The phone will go on sale in China starting from 11 September and will be available in four color options- Black, Blue, Red, and Purple.

The Honor 8X Max 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant is priced at CNY 1,499 (roughly Rs. 15,700) and the 4GB RAM + 128GB storage variant is priced at CNY 1,799 (roughly Rs. 18,700). The phone has already gone on sale in China and there are three color options available for the buyers- Blue, Red and Black

The Honor 8X sports a 6.5-inch IPS LCD Full HD+ display with 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of box with Huawei’s own EMUI 8.2 overlay and is fueled by 3,750mAh battery which has a fast charging support. Under the hood, the device is powered by an octa-core Kirin 710 processor along with GPU Turbo technology and 4GB or 6GB of RAM. In terms of internal storage, there are two options- 64GB and 128GB.

In terms of connectivity, the Honor 8X features Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, and Dual 4G VoLTE. For security purpose there’s Face Unlock as well as a rear mounted fingerprint sensor. In terms of dimensions, the phone measures 160.4×76.6×7.8 mm.

In terms of optics, there’s a dual rear camera set up comprising of 20MP primary sensor + 2MP secondary sensor. The rear camera set up is backed by some AI features such as intelligent scene detection and a portrait mode. The front hosts a 16MP camera for selfies and video calls.

Honor 8X MaxHonor 8X Max Features and Specifications:

The Honor 8X Max runs EMUI 8.2.0 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo operating system and is backed by an impressive 5,000mAh battery. The dual-SIM phone features 7.12-inch full-HD+ TFT IPS display along with 1080×2244 pixel resolution, an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and pixel density of 350ppi. Under the hood, the phone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC paired with 4GB RAM. There are two variants in terms of onboard storage- 64GB and 128GB with an option to expand via microSD card. Connectivity options included in the phone are 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, and Micro-USB. In terms of dimensions, the phone measures 177.57×86.24×8.13 mm.

For the camera buffs, the Honor 8X Max bears a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 16-megapixel primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor with f/2.4 aperture. On the front, you get an 8-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture for selfies.

Overall both the phones seem to offer good features as well as specifications for the price tag. It will be interesting to see if and when Honor will bring these devices to Indian market. Stay tuned for further updates!
