The latest range of smartphones from HMD Global launched today in Finland through an online-only event. The latest additions include Nokia 8.3 5G, which will be the company’s first 5G smartphone, the budget-range Nokia 5.3, and the entry-segment Nokia 1.3. Both the latter models will come with Android 10 out-of-the-box and with a waterdrop notch. However, there are a plethora of differences in regard to the features on both the models and without further adieu, let’s dive into the details.

Nokia 5.3: Key specs and features

This latest HMD offering, Nokia 5.3 comes as a successor to the 2018’s Nokia 5.1. The smartphone comes with a 6.55” HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and a notch for the selfie camera. Nokia 5.3 will be powered by Snapdragon 655 paired with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage. There will also be a microSD card slot, providing expandable storage up to 512 GB. Following its own footprint, these smartphones will come with stock Android and Nokia is also assuring 2 years of software updates. The smartphone will come with a rear fingerprint scanner and users will also get a dedicated Google Assistant button on the left side.

Coming to the cameras, Nokia 5.3 will come with a quad-camera module with a 13 MP f/1.8 primary sensor, 5 MP ultra-wide, two 2 MP sensors for depth and macro shots. On the software front, the camera interface will feature AI scene detection, portrait mode, and night mode. The waterdrop selfie camera will be an 8 MP sensor. The smartphone will be backed up by a 4000 mAh battery with Type-C port for charging, yet no support for fast charging. However, the company claims the battery will last up to two days.

Nokia 1.3: Key specs and features

This smartphone is the entry-level one with a 5.71” HD+ display and an aspect ratio of 19:9. Nokia 1.3 will build-out of polycarbonate material with a 3D texture. The smartphone will be powered by the Snapdragon 215 paired with 1 GB RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The storage is expandable via a microSD card up to 400 GB. On the OS front, Nokia 1.3 will boot with Android 10 Go edition and the package will be backed up by 3000 mAh battery.

 

Coming to the cameras, there will be a single 8 MP sensor with Google’s Camera Go app as the default shooter. This feature translates to getting the picture quality to a phenomenal level, thanks to Google’s advanced algorithms. On the selfie snapper, it’s a 5 MP sensor and the smartphone will also get a Google Assistant button with no fingerprint sensor. However, there will be the face unlock feature integrated using the front camera.

Pricing and availability

The latest Nokia series will be available to purchase from April 2020. The entry-level Nokia 1.3 will be priced at EURO 95 (₹7,500) and the Nokia 5.3 will be available at EURO 189 (₹15,100) for 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage option. The smartphones will be available in 3 color variants, Cyan, Sand Color, and Charcoal.
