Google has showcased its Pixel 2 smartphone at an event in San Fransisco. Manufactured by HTC, the handset seems to lack a flair owing to its thick bezels surrounding the display. The only saving grace is that these bezels house two stereo speakers. With its aluminium unibody construction, the Pixel 2 is reminiscent of its predecessor. The Pixel 2 is IP67 certified for dust and water resistant, which the previous iterations lacked.

The phone features a 5-inch AMOLED display. The panels boast of an impressive contrast ratio of 100000:1. This ensures darkest blacks and brightest whites. The screen is protected by 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

The Pixel 2 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 system on chip. It hosts an octa-core CPU clocked at 2.35 GHz and is coupled with Adreno 540 GPU to handle gaming. The phone has 4 GB RAM and comes in 64 GB and 128 GB storage options. There is an expandable card slot on-board as well. The phone has a 2700 mAh battery, which seems like a cause for concern.

The older Pixel phones enjoyed the tag of being one of the best cameras on a smartphone. Google claims that the things are even better in the latest iteration. The Pixel 2 features a rear 12.2 MP camera with OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) and EIS (Electronic image Stabilisation). It also gets Laser + Dual-Pixel Phase detection. Google has upped its game in photography with the help of AI (Artificial Intelligence). The company claims that this phone uses AI to analyse the shots for better Bokeh effect. The 8 MP selfie camera is also backed by the same software wizardry.

The Pixel 2 runs on Android Oreo 8.0 out-of-the-box. HTC has implemented its EdgeSense feature to Pixel 2. It activates the Google AI mode when the frame of the phone is squeezed on its edges. The Google AI now accepts function commands, which can be used to activate or disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other such functions. The Phone features an always-on display, which can detect and displays song information running in the background.

The Pixel 2 comes in Kinda Blue, Just Black, and Clearly white. The 64 GB model is priced at $649 in the US. The 128 GB version will cost $749. For India, the Pixel 2 will be up for pre-order from October 26th on Flipkart and Offline stores while it will go on sale starting from November 1.
