Dell Is All Set To Beat The Remarkable XPS 13 with The XPS 13 2-in-1 Convertible Laptopby Nawaf Khan January 4, 2017
The successful Dell XPS 13 laptop was one of the best laptops of the year. It’s beautiful and sleek design found many takers and armed with the latest Windows 10 iteration, the XPS 13 was a brilliant and powerful machine that was hard to beat. But it seems Dell itself has beaten the XPS 13 with another machine of their own. Dell has just announced the versatile XPS 13 2-in-1, which means that it can be used both as a laptop and as a tablet. Dell has added full swivel hinges to the screen so that it can now be rotated by 360 degrees.
The screen is a marvel to look at. By minimising bezels around the screen to just about 5 mm, Dell has virtually made a 13.3-inch screen fit in an area more suitable for a smaller 11-inch screen. That in itself is a crowning achievement. The new laptop-cum-tablet looks almost similar to the XPS 13 with is aluminium design and finish. It is just a tad smaller than the XPS 13, thanks to its fan-less processor. Though there is no 4K option available, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 has two variants. One with a FullHD screen and one with a QuadHD+ screen.
Display: 13.3-inch Infinity Display with FullHD (1920 x 1080) or QuadHD+ (3200 x 1800) resolution.
Option 1: Intel Core i5-7Y54 processor with TurboBoost (3.2GHz)
Option 2: Intel Core i7-7Y75 processor with TurboBoost (3.6GHZ)
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 615
RAM: 4/8/16 GB as required
Storage: 128 GB SSD on the base model. Option to upgrade to 256, 512 GB or 1 TB.
3.5mm headphone jack
The spec sheet clearly shows that the newer 2-in-1 version is by no means an updated version of the XPS 13. It is a simple alternate option for those who want a laptop-tablet hybrid. And for that function, it is a great machine and one that has the potential to be quite popular.
Most tablets cannot be propped up without the use of accessories. But like the Lenovo Yoga and HP 360, the XPS 13 2-in-one can completely be a laptop, a bar-like tablet, or a propped-up tablet in case of multiple or hands-free usage. The brilliant screen with minimum bezels works wonderfully, especially in tablet mode, since it can be an immersive experience to play games or movies.
But all this comes at a price. This ultra-portable new Dell device comes at a price of a whopping $ 999 (approx. Rs. 70,000). It is a tad too expensive for a laptop this size. It will be available in the US from the 5th Jan. So, if you want to buy a Dell laptop online, keep the new Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 on your radar as it is an excellent and powerful machine and just like the XPS 13, is sure to make heads turn.
