6th August was a delightful day for all those Chetan Bhagat fans, as the e-commerce website Flipkart announced that the website is taking pre-orders for his next book titled “Half Girlfriend.” The 3 year hiatus is finally broken as his last novel titled “Revolution 2020” was released in the year 2011. For the past 3 years Chetan was busy writing scripts for movies and his fans were eagerly waiting for his next release.

Chetan himself broke the news on Monday night as he tweeted about his next book.  The book is set for an October release.

Bhagat’s next venture is an uncanny love story; uncanny with respect to the scenario he has chosen to dig in. The plot of the novel revolves around a Bihari boy named Madhav who falls in love with a girl named Riya, a rich chic from Delhi. Madhav being a rural Bihari is not very well versed in English; on the other hand, Riya being Delhi lass is a fluent speaker. The plot gets interesting when Madhav dreams of having a serious romantic relationship with Riya and confronts it to her. However, Riya has no such feelings for him, and so she decides to be Madhav’s Half-Girlfriend.

The author has tackled with the idea of modern day relationships, and well, the plot already seems perfect for another Bollywood Blockbuster. As we know some of Chetan’s previous work has already been successfully adapted on the Silver Screen; 3 Idiots and 2 States being huge hits were adapted from Bhagat’s Five Point Someone and the novel titled the same ‘2 States’ respectively.

Though the story of the novel may not offer something out-of –the-box, somehow Chetan has already managed to create a buzz about it. Flipkart has already announced that the pre-order of the book is charged for Rs 149, while after the official launch the book will be priced at Rs 175. Half-Girlfriend will be officially launched on October 9th.

Chetan bhagat is past his best now, he is now writing books which are more derived by bollywood flicks rather than some original topics…God bless him.
