Indulge In Some ‘MEGA’ Fun With Micromax’s New Smartphones!by Rajshree Faria December 10, 2015
Each time Gurgaon based Micromax makes an announcement, you can be rest assured that you have a mind-boggling product coming your way soon. The Indian tech brand continues with its tradition of tapping into the needs of the masses to produce smartphones that become an instant hit. This time, Micromax has correctly understood the consumers need for smartphones in the ‘phablet’ category and has come up with two new phablets, named, ‘Canvas Mega’ and ‘Canvas Mega 4G’.
Let’s talk about the non-4G Canvas product first; the Canvas Mega E353 is available for purchase for Rs.7,999. The massive 5.5” HD IPS display gives a resolution of 1280 x 720p which will show you the pictures taken through your 13 megapixels primary camera with utmost clarity. The 5MP front camera incorporated in the phone will entice the selfie lovers to buy this phone! The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Equipped with a 1.4GHz Octa-Core processor and 1GB RAM DDR3, this smartphone will help you multitask effortlessly. The smartphone comes with 8GB ROM, expandable by another 32GB, and 2820 mAh battery.
Running on Android Lollipop, the smartphone comes with certain pre-loaded apps such as Amazon, Quikr, Hotstar, Hike, Amazon Kindle, and Saavn. The smartphone supports dual SIM, making the user’s world as big as the phone’s screen!
Coming to what we can assume to be the more updated Canvas, the Canvas Mega 4G Q417 is the more “connected” sibling of the Canvas Mega thanks to its 4G capabilities. Priced at Rs.10,999, Micromax hasn’t announced when this Canvas will be available to be painted on. The phablet sports a 5.5” HD IPS display.
To ensure smooth processing to keep up with the 4G speeds, the Canvas Mega 4G includes a robust 1.3GHz quad core processor from MediaTek, and 3GB of RAM. The phone incorporates the same camera as its counterpart i.e. 13 megapixels back, and a 5 megapixels front camera. The smartphone will come with a bigger internal storage capacity of 16GB but a lesser capacity battery with 2500 mAh juice as compared to the Canvas Mega E353.
As mentioned earlier, this phablet will support 4G connectivity thanks to its compatibility with Indian 4G networks. Not to mention, we don’t have many telecom networks that offer 4G connectivity, but one can always hope! The smartphone operates on the Lollipop iteration of Android, thus enabling the user to download a variety of apps from multiple categories.
The phablet market is growing by leaps and bounds, with certain estimates, putting the growth at 200% in the last quarter, according to Mr. Vineet Taneja, CEO, Micromax Informatics. With such an upward surge in the demand for large screen smartphones, it is no wonder that Micromax decided to foray into the phablet category with these two new designs.
With Micromax offering such power-packed phablets with such a competitive price tag, it won’t be surprising that the Indian manufacturer surpasses its foreign competition like Xiaomi, Samsung, Sony, HTC, Lenovo, etc., to emerge as the most loved brand in the phablet category.
