The One you Cannot Have By Preeti Shenoy
All the love stories don’t end happyily. But then again, everyone’s love doesn’t last forever. The One You cannot have is a story about Aman, who falls in love with Shruti. The love pair breaks up quite early in the novel, leaving Aman distraught. Since there’s nothing that he can think of what to do, he leaves India to pursue his career, hoping that success in career will help him drown the hurt that he has felt.
Shruti moves on, to marry Rishabh. After a while, Aman returns to India, thinking that it’s time make a fresh start. He meets Anjali, and one thing leads to another, before he discovers that he is developing feelings for her. Amidst all this, Aman realizes that there’s still a part of his heart which aches for all the dreams he had with Shruti.
The novel might seem like a conventional love tragedy, but Shenoy has the skill to put in powerful words to trace out emotions which you never knew could exist. In a way, this book is a celebration of the fact that love is forever, even if it’s lost, forever.
Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
The book asks questions like what makes somebody rich. Hard work or sheer luck? He points out the difference between someone who always ends up buying the consumer level goods, and thus makes the family dependent on income all the time. On the other hand, Kiyosaki emphasizes, through a series of examples, on the importance of buying assets that would generate more assets in the future. The book is a must read for those who intend to indulge in startups, or simply want to increase their financial intelligence.
If God was a Banker by Ravi Subramaniam
The novel is story about two IIM alumni who have set themselves out on the rat race for success. It’s a story about two and a third person (who is pretty much the main character), who have their own philosophies. Everyone wants to succeed, but at what price? That’s what this novel is about.
