by October 10, 2015

There are music systems, there are brilliant music systems, and then there is a BeoLab music system. Produced by the Danish consumer electronics company Bang & Olufsen, the upcoming BeoLab 90 set of speakers, according to the company’s official website, will “blow the roof off your house and knock the socks off your guests.”

Revealed as part of early celebrations on account of the company turning 90 years old next month, the ridiculously priced speakers boast of changing the future of sound with its technology. The company believes that this is its proudest loudspeaker till date, incorporating technology that will increase its precision in producing sound. As can be seen in the images, the designers have attempted to perfect a blend of acoustics and superlative design to make a product that becomes the talk of the town.

So what exactly does this exorbitantly priced (yes, I’m obsessed with its price tag) BeoLab 90 speakers have that other moderately priced loudspeakers don’t? The answer to that is the ‘Bang & Olufsen’s new Active Room Compensation’ tech which nullifies the effects that the furniture, walls, listening position, or even the placement of the speakers has on the quality of sound produced by the BeoLab 90.

Furthermore, the Beam Direction Control allows the user to direct the sound to their preferred location, so that you can listen to your favourite songs in your favoured spot in the room. Ever complained about the lack of sound in one part of the room and too much sound in another? Well, with the Beam Width Control feature that the BeoLab 90 comes with, the user can make sure that there is an equal sound distribution in the entire room, leading to an impressive 360 degree sound dispersion! Well, certainly helpful while hosting a party…

The BeoLab 90 loudspeakers get even smarter when coupled with their smartphone app counterpart. The user can easily direct the beam through the app, and even have presets for your favourite occasions. Designed by the Frackenpohl Poulheim design studio in Germany, the BeoLab 90 sports 200-watt speakers with 18 eighteen custom made drivers and amplifiers. Four amplifiers, namely HelioX AM1000-1 Class D Amps, work to produce even the low frequencies with ease. The BeoLab 90 comes in pairs, with one being the ‘Master’ and the other, the ‘Slave’. The Master receives all the signals from the preamplifier which are then communicated to the Slave wirelessly or through a powerlink. All in all, the BeoLab 90 holds a lot of promise thanks to its latest integrated technology.

Yes, the speakers cost a bomb and some extra pennies, and the brand is well aware of that fact as can be seen in their description of the BeoLab 90 speakers which goes something like this… “It will not be for everybody, but it will be for the right somebody.” Yeah, the “right somebody” being someone with about Rs.24, 00,000 to spare on a set of speakers.

Well, Navratri festival is just round the corner, so you might consider buying this mega beast (if your pockets are deep enough…) and experience the amazing sound quality while you enjoy the folk dance – Garba and Dandiya – like never before!
