The last few quarters have seen a fierce competition between technology giants like Samsung, Apple, Sony, and Motorola for shares in the Smartphone market; from Galaxy to iPhone, from Xperia to Moto series, every range of mobile phones have found a loyal customer base. Sensing the growing demand for quality Smartphones, Chinese maker Xiaomi entered the Indian market a couple of years ago. With millions of its products already sold, Xiaomi is looking to add to those numbers with the prospective launch of its new Mi5 Smartphone.
The internet is abuzz with strong rumors about the technology that will be incorporated in the Mi5. According to a Chinese blogger who posted on Weibo, the Mi5 will have fingerprint scanning technology. Supposedly, Xiaomi has filed for a patent regarding fingerprint recognition method via the handset’s buttons at China’s State Intellectual Property Office.
As per a rough English translation, the patent filing document stated, “The device comprises a bottom fingerprint sensors and optical sensor provided in the terminal equipment of the cover glass.”
If this piece of news is true, the Mi5 will join the league of Smartphones like Apple iPhone 5s, Apple iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S5, S6, S6 Edge, HTC One Max, and HTC One M9+ which already boast of such technology.
Although unconfirmed by Xiaomi spokespeople, the Mi5 is reported to sport a 5.2” Quad HD resolution display. It is also supposed to be waterproof for some added durability. The technical specs are bound to leave anyone speechless; the Mi5 will apparently come equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 64 bit computing and 8 CPU cores- 4 Cortex-A57 and 4 Cortex-A53 cores- and 4GB of RAM. For gaming lovers, the phone will have an Adreno 430 GPU that plays even the most resource demanding games without a hitch. It will be available in 8 GB, 16 GB, or 64 GB options. With such amazing specifications, the phone is sure to give the competition a tough fight.
The Xiaomi Mi5 may be powered by a 3200 mAh battery that promises to keep the everyday multitasker happy. It is also expected to have a 16 MP rear camera that will hold the most appeal for camera lovers. As far as its OS is concerned, reports suggest that it will run on MIUI 7, the Lollipop version of MIUI.
Integrating the latest in technology, understanding the demands of the customers, providing a competitive pricing and designing a rich interface are all factors that are working in the favour of Xiaomi. However, it remains to be seen if the soon-to-be launched Mi5 will live up to the expectations of the masses or be forgotten like the Smartphones of the past…
