Asus Zenfone Lite L1 vs Lenovo A5 vs Realme C1Last week, Taiwan based smartphone maker Asus expanded its budget smartphone portfolio with the launch of Asus Zenfone Lite alongside Zenfone Max M1. Earlier in the month, Lenovo launched its latest budget offering dubbed as Lenovo A5. While, Realme launched its budget offering dubbed as Realme C1 as a surprise package alongside Realme 2 Pro. All three phones come with decent set of features and specifications. In case you wish to purchase any of these phones and are confused, then read further as we’ll be comparing the three phones based on their software and hardware configuration along with the price in India.

In terms of design, the ASUS ZenFone Lite L1 features a plastic body but it has a metallic finish which makes it look comparatively more premium. The Lenovo A5 also features a plastic body with a metal frame which makes it a bit durable.  While the Realme C1 has a full plastic body with a glossy finish. Overall, being budget smartphones, all three phones are average looking and there is nothing great in terms of design in any one of them.

In terms of dimensions, the Zenfone Lite L1 measures 147.26×71.77×8.15 mm and weighs about 140 grams. The Lenovo A5 measures 146.2×70.86×9.8 mm and weighs in at 160 grams. While, the Realme C1 measures 156.2×75.6×8.2 and has weight of about 168 grams. So, the Realme C1 is the slimmest, while the Zenfone Lite L1 is the lightest of the three phones.

In terms of display, the The ASUS ZenFone Lite L1 sports a 5.45-inch HD+ IPS display with resolution of 720×1440 pixels and aspect ratio of 18:9 which results into 82 percent screen-to-body ratio. The Lenovo A5 features a 5.45-inch HD+ IPS display with 720×1440 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. While, the Realme C1 comes with a tall 6.2-inch HD+ display with 720×1520 pixel resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio resulting into 88.8 per cent screen-to-body ratio. The display comes with an iPhone X like notch at the top which houses the selfie camera along with other sensors.

The Realme C1 seems to have a slight upper hand in the display department, thanks to its comparatively large display and better resolution along with aspect ratio (courtesy- notch).

Under the hood, Asus Zenfone Lite L1 is powered by a Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor along with Adreno 505 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage. There is also a provision for microSD card expansion up to 256GB.


The Lenovo A5 draws power from a quad-core MediaTek MT6739 SoC clocked at up to 1.5GHz coupled with up to 3GB of RAM and PowerVR GE8100 GPU. There are two options in terms of onboard storage- 16GB and 32GB. In addition, the storage can be expanded further up to 256GB using a microSD card.

The Realme C1 is fueled by a a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 chipset along with Adreno 506 GPU and offers 2GB of RAM. The inbuilt storage capacity of the phone is 16GB with support for expandability up to 256GB via a microSD card.

In terms of performance, the Realme C1 again seems to have an edge over its counterparts.

In the software department, the Asus Zenfone Lite L1 runs Android Oreo operating system based on ZenUI 5.0 out of the box. The Lenovo A5 is shipped with ZUI 3.9 based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box. While, the Realme C1 runs ColorOS 5.1 custom skin based on Android 8.1 Oreo OS.

In terms of battery, the Asus Zenfone Lite L1 is backed by a 3,000mAh battery. The Lenovo A5 packs an impressive 4,000mAh battery. While, the Realme C1 again tops the chart with a 4,270mAh battery which is massive for an entry level smartphone.

In terms of optics, the Zenfone Lite L1 features a 13-megapixel single rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, 1.12um pixel size, PDAF, and LED flash support. The front hosts an 8-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture and 1.12um pixel size for selfies. The front camera has LED flash support and it also doubles up as Face Unlock. Notably, the phone lacks physical fingerprint sensor.

The Lenovo A5 bears a single 13-megapixel rear sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, autofocus and monochrome flash. For selfies, there’s an 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture.

While, the Realme C1 is the only device out of three to feature a dual rear camera set up comprising of a 13-megapixel primary sensor + 2-megapixel secondary sensor. The front hosts a 5-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture for selfies with AI Face Unlock support. The front camera also features AI Beauty Mode.

Although the on-paper camera performance may vary from the actual output, in our opinion the Realme C1 features a better camera set up as compared to its rivals.

The Asus ZenFone Lite L1 is priced in India at Rs. 6,999, but it can be purchased at a special introductory price of Rs. 5,999 for a limited period (not specified by the company). The phone is sold exclusively via eCommerce giant and comes in two colour options- Black and Gold.

The Lenovo A5 base variant i.e. 2GB RAM + 16GB storage is priced at Rs. 5,999 and the top variant i.e. 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant is priced at Rs. 6999. There are two options available for the interested buyers- Black and Fine Gold.

The Realme C1 comes with a price tag of Rs. 6,999 under an introductory offer during Diwali season. There are three colour options for the buyers- Black Sea, Blue Ocean, and Ice Lake.

Based on the above comparison, the Realme C1 emerges out as a clear winner as it scores more over its competitors in several aspects such as display, battery, camera set up and performance. It is priced slightly higher as compared to Asus Zenfone Lite L1 and Lenovo A5, but we feel it is worth paying that extra amount in return of the value you get for the same.
