Asus is all set to announce its latest phone at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. If rumours and leaks are to be believed, the newest from Asus could be in the form of the Asus Zenfone 3 Go. The Asus Zenfone Go was launched way back in 2015, and despite different variants popping up here and there since then, the Go brand has not received a major upgrade or design overhaul. The leaked Zenfone 3 Go could be the long-awaited upgrade to the Go line-up. Most of the specifications of the device have already leaked, and we’ll be taking a look at the features that are expected with this device.
An Italian website recently leaked an image of the device and what we see is a complete design overhaul of the Go series. The new Zenfone 3 Go is housed in a metal shell with the popular antenna bands on the top and bottom. The rear camera is on the left side while the USB Type-C port and speaker are towards the bottom edge.
The device is supposed to be available in three colours: black, pink and gold. The button on the rear that was present on the original Go is also gone, and the renders do not suggest the presence of any fingerprint sensor. Also, the device does seem to have some sort of capacitive buttons on the front.
5-inch HD Display
Snapdragon 410 Chipset
13MP Rear Camera with 1.4μm pixel size
5MP selfie camera
Soft LED flash at the front for better selfies
Dual MEMS microphones for noise suppression
5 Magnet speakers
The specifications are not so noteworthy, especially the below par chipset and storage. Asus had the opportunity to go for the Snapdragon 625 and 32GB storage. But a price tag of approximately Rs. 11,000 is what probably stopped them. Some might find those specifications acceptable for that price range. But the likes of Xiaomi, with the recent Note 4, has shown that one can make phones with better hardware even on a tight budget. The 2GB version of the Xiaomi Note 4 price, which retails for around Rs. 11000/- will be the Zenfone 3 Go’s stiffest competitor. The lack of a fingerprint sensor is also a real deal-breaker.
The thing to see now is how Asus projects the Zenfone 3 Go and what the pricing will be like in India. An intelligent and aggressive price of around 8-9 thousand might just work if Asus wants to sell that spec sheet. Anything higher (like the estimated 11K price) could put the new phone in direct competition with the phenomenally popular Redmi Note 4, which is superior in every way.
Some leaks suggest a 720p screen instead of fullHD, and if that is the case, then the Zenfone might not find any takers. But let’s just wait till the MWC gets underway in Barcelona and find out.
