
ASUS Revealed ZenFone 8 and ZenFone 8 Flip With Snapdragon 888 & 64MP Camera
The Taiwanese tech giant Asus has launched its all-new ZenFone 8 and ZenFone 8 Flip in the global market. The duo will sport top-of-the-line Snapdragon 888 chip and the design language opted by Asus is quite compact and offers an easy one-hand use. ZenFone 8 will also come with rapid charging, 120Hz display, and dual-camera module with 64-megapixel primary sensor.
ZenFone 8 Flip will carry forward the flip camera design from last year’s ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 6. As it’s a flip camera, there will be no front-firing camera and there is also a high screen-to-body ratio. The camera module flips 180-degree to offer you high-resolution selfie pictures and videos. The flip mechanism houses a triple-camera system.
Asus ZenFone 8: Key specs & features
The AMOLED panel on the younger sibling will be 5.92” in size producing FHD+ resolution. The panel also houses an in-display fingerprint scanner along with a high refresh rate of 120Hz. The screen will go up to a peak brightness of 1,100 nits and the aspect ratio is 20.5:9, it will also support HDR10+. The screen will also carry a punch-hole selfie camera and the screen protection used here by Asus is Gorilla Glass Victus.
At its core, ZenFone 8 will sport Snapdragon 888 and the top-spec variant will have 16 gigs of high-speed LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 onboard storage. With fast charging support of 30W, the smartphone will house 4,000 mAh battery.
Coming to the opticals, the punch-hole cutout will house a 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor and it will come with dual-pixel PDAF. The rear camera module comes with a 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor paired with 12MP ultra-wide Sony IMX363 sensor with dual-pixel PDAF.
Asus ZenFone 8 Flip: Key specs & features
The elder sibling ZenFone 8 Flip will come with a bigger AMOLED E4 panel of 6.67” and it will offer 90Hz refresh rate. Like the ZenFone 8, it will also come with an in-display fingerprint scanner, HDR10+, and the screen will get its protection by the all-new Gorilla Glass Victus.
The chipset powering ZenFone 8 Flip is Snapdragon 888 coupled with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM. The smartphone’s top-spec variant will come with 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The battery capacity on the Flip is higher as well, it’s 5,000 mAh and will also support 30W fast charging.
The optical setup on the ZenFone 8 Flip is a triple-sensor module that acts as both, rear and front cameras. The primary sensor is a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide Sony IMX363 sensor and an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom.
The ZenFone 8 duo will come with IP68 ratings making it dust and water-resistant. The duo will boot on the latest version of ZenUI based on Android 11. Some other connectivity features are dual-SIM 5G, Wi-Fi 6E (Wi-Fi 6 on ZenFone 8), BT 5.2, dual GPS, dedicated microSD slot, dual amplifiers, Hi-res audio support along with 3.5 audio port (only on ZenFone 8), NFC, type-C USB, and DIRAC HD sound. The smartphone comes with an aluminum chassis for better durability.
Pricing & availability
The ZenFone 8 will come in multiple variants, 6/128GB, 8/128GB, 8/256GB, and 16/256GB. The pricing of the whole lineup isn’t revealed yet, however, the base variant is priced at €599 (roughly ₹53,300). The elder sibling ZenFone 8 Flip will come in 8/256GB combination and is priced at €799 (roughly ₹71,000).
The ZenFone 8 will come in Horizon Silver and Obsidian Black color options whereas the Flip variant will be available in Glacier Silver and Galactic Black. The Indian launch is postponed by Asus due to the pandemic’s second wave and the ZenFone 8 series is expected to launch in a few couple of months.
