However, it has helped in a complete revolution of the TWS earbuds segment. It has also resulted in a clone war that is going till date.

Though Apple updates its iPhone lineup each year, it took the brand 3 years to launch the second gen of its AirPods. These were introduced in March ’19 and AirPods Pro were also introduced later in October the same year. The AirPods lineup was added with a new member, AirPods Max. These were the over-the-ear headphones and the latest AirPods 3 is seen as the best upgrade compared to the one that was launched in 2016.

Apple AirPods 3: Key specs & features

It was 2019 when Apple launched the AirPods Pro and it kind of settled on the best design language. The earlier version of this TWS earbuds looked quite like a standard EarPods with no wires. The all-new AirPods 3 is a step ahead by the brand in making these earbuds more affordable to the masses.

For the design changes, Apple has done a major overhaul here after its debut in 2016. The AirPods 3 resembles a design language that seems to be taken from both the AirPods and AirPods Pro. The stem part is retained from the AirPods Pro whereas the earbuds are borrowed from the 2016’s AirPods. The final result is quite similar to the classic Earpods with a smaller stem.

There were rumors suggesting the silicon tip like AirPods Pro, however, Apple has taken it back. This could have been done to maintain the comfort that is there even without these tips. The earbuds will run on computational audio, powered by the H1 chip. It promises to deliver a much better sound experience. The earbuds will also support dynamic head tracking along with spatial audio.

We are seeing a surge in the number of artists releasing their work with Spatial Audio support and the all-new AirPods 3 will help deliver this advanced tech to the masses. In the key note, Apple has focused on the mic, as well. It has an in-built acoustic mesh that helps in eliminating wind noise. The microphones also come with AAC-ELD support. As Apple is offering it at an entry-level price segment, users will not get ANC that was present on the AirPods Pro.

There is a significant upgrade in terms of battery life, the brand claims to offer continuous talktime of 4 hours and 6 hours of continuous music playback. With the case, the AirPods 3 can last up to 30 hours. The case can now be charged using MagSafe. The all-new TWS earbuds come with a design that is focused on fetching the features that were earlier present on the Pro variant.

The features that it retains from the Pro variant are one-touch setup and IPX4 water-resistant ratings. Having this product in the market, Apple is giving a direct flight to the likes of Jabra Elite 7 Pro. However, it will attract the user base the most that is already in the Apple ecosystem.
