Apple is all set to launch the second generation of its wireless Bluetooth earphones – The Apple AirPods 2 in the first half of 2019. Last year, a noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted something to this effect and now his prediction could turn out to be true if the emerging news reports on Apple AirPods 2 is to be believed.

According to a report by Digitimes, the Apple AirPods 2 will come with a brand-new design. The design will enable the wireless earphones to monitor various health-related metrics of the users and it will carry out various health monitoring functions.

This is not the first time that a news about the AirPods 2 has been out. Last year, the second-generation AirPods were seen listed on the Bluetooth certification site, Bluetooth Special Interest Group. As per the listing on the site, the AirPods 2 will come with the latest Bluetooth standard – the Bluetooth 5.0. It will come bundled with a whole new list of interesting features. The list of features that are expected to be available in the Apple AirPods 2 includes active-noise cancellation and biometric measurement.

Additionally, trademark filings filed last year also reveal that the AirPods 2 will sport a feature called as the “wellness sensors”. These are a group of sensors that will enable the device to monitor a set of health-related details. These details include the heart-rate, body movement and calories burnt among others. Apart from the wellness features, the Apple AirPods 2 is rumoured to also include features that track, monitor, store, report and transmit biometric data.

As per a Bloomberg report last year, Apple is likely to launch three new variants of its AirPods, two of which will be launched in 2019 with water-resistance technology, a wider operational range and heart rate monitoring function. The report also conveyed that the AirPods 2 will be safeguarded during rains and from sweat due to its water-resistance technology. The technology will, however, not be able to safeguard the device when the user is swimming.

The company has also introduced a whole list of advanced health features including ECG and fall-detection to its Watch Series 4. This was launched alongside its three new iPhones- iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max-in September last year. Logically, it would make complete sense for Apple to now introduce health-monitoring features to its Apple AirPods 2 and complete its ecosystem.
