Amazon has recently added two devices to its e-reader lineup, Kindle Paperwhite and Paperwhite Signature. These e-readers are launched in the Indian market where the standard variant of Paperwhite carries some significant upgrades over the last year’s version. The Signature edition of the all-new e-reader is loaded with features that users will not have the access to even on the premium Kindle Oasis.

At the launch event, Parag Gupta, Amazon IN Chief stated that the new e-readers are equipped with better battery, brighter display panel, and an overall premium build quality with waterproof design.

With thinner bezels, both the e-readers sport a screen size of 6.8” and the pixel density on the standard Paperwhite and its Signature edition is 300ppi. Users will also get a premium reading experience that is glare-free. The 10% additional brightness feature will also let users read the content with more comfort on the eyes. Not only these new Kindle e-readers will allow you to tweak the warm tone, users will also get to enable the white-on-black mode to start reading anytime and anywhere.

The Signature edition of the all-new Paperwhite will also auto-adjust the screen brightness based on the environment you are in. It will further let you create a much better space to read your favorite book. These e-readers will come equipped with IPX8 certification, making it a waterproof device. The UI is also revamped and now offers multiple features that are seen for the first time on a Kindle.

The feature or the UI design change that makes reading more convenient is it will now let you swiftly switch among the current read, home screen, and the library. The lock screen will show you the cover page of the book that you are currently reading and thanks to the onboard Whispersync, reader’s progress will be updated across the devices along with bookmarks and other annotations.

At its core, the standard Paperwhite comes with 8 gigs of storage whereas the Signature variant will go all the way up to 32GB. The 10W charging support through USB Type-C will last for up to 10 weeks, Amazon claims. The Signature variant will also be equipped with wireless charging along with full support of Qi-certified chargers available in the market. Another specific feature available only on the Signature edition is the 4G support whereas the standard edition has just the Wi-Fi support.

Pricing and availability

The all-new Kindle Paperwhite series will be available in a single Black color option and will go on sale today only, i.e. September 21. The standard variant will come with a price tag of ₹13,999 whereas the Signature edition will cost ₹17,999. There will be a ₹500 Kindle credits given to the buyers that they can use in the e-book purchase.
