Amazon Music customers will now be able to have a casual chat with Alexa and get it to play their favourite music. With this, Amazon has added yet another new capability to its AI-powered voice assistant Alexa. Users of Amazon’s Echo devices and Amazon Prime Music on Android and iOS will now be able to have intelligent conversations with Alexa. Playing the favourite music tracks on Amazon Music has now become absolutely seamless and easy.

“Alexa, help me find a playlist” is the voice command that will help users to initiate the conversation with Alexa. It will lead Alexa to ask the user for their preferences in terms of the genre of music they would like to hear, the tempo and the mood. It can also ask users if they are alone before playing out songs with explicit lyrics. Alexa will also give users a preview of the playlist suggestions. Users can keep adding criteria to Alexa’s search that can help the intelligent virtual assistant to refine the playlist as per user’s preferences.

Users can also tell Alexa about a specific song that they like. They can also ask Alexa to mark a particular song as disliked and to never play the same song again. These features help it to curate the entire music experience. Over multiple iterations, Alexa would be able to customize the playlists as per the user’s taste for situations in which users ask Alexa to suggest some new music.

Amazon is working on Alexa’s algorithm and curation engine to adapt seamlessly to user’s tastes and preferences. As it is built in to the Amazon Prime Music app, users can soon expect Alexa to automatically create playlists that you might desire as per your situation and mood.

The updates to Alexa’s musical intelligence have been made available all over the world. The feature could become a compelling one in the next set of users opting for the Echo speaker as against the Google Home or the Apple Homepod. It will also help Amazon Prime Music to compete in the battle for users with Spotify and Apple Music. Interestingly, Apple Music has been already introduced to Echo speakers. “Would these new features enable Amazon to convince its users to keep listening to Prime Music”, is the most important question that Amazon is looking to address.
