Ahead Of Official Launch, Xiaomi’s Redmi 5 And 5 Plus Appear On Twitterby Ajinkya December 5, 2017
Xiaomi’s global spokesperson Donovan Sung has posted the images of the highly anticipated Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus on Twitter. These phones are slated to launch on December 7.
Although Donovan did not leave anything for imagination in terms of design, he did not reveal the underpinnings of the device. However, judging by the images, we the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus seem to sport 18:9 displays. The fingerprint sensor is placed at the back much like other Xiaomi smartphones.
Thanks to additional information spotted on the Chinese telecom regulatory authority TENAA, we can comment on some specifications of the phone. The Redmi 5 sport a 5-inch HD+ screen with 720×1440 pixels. It is likely to be powered by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 435 SoC (System on Chip). It will come in three variants with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage, 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage, and 4 GB and 64 GB internal storage. It may also feature a microSD card slot. The smartphone is backed by a 3200 mAh battery which is 900 mAh short of the previously launched Redmi 4’s 4100 mAh unit. On the photography front the handset is said to sport 12 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera.
The Redmi 5 Plus as its name suggests will sport a larger 5.7-inch display. It will be slightly more powerful by opting for the Snapdragon 450 chipset. Much like its younger sibling, the Redmi 5 Plus may also come in multiple RAM variants. The battery capacity of the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is believed to be 4000 mAh.
Both the phones may run Android 7.1.2 with MIUI 9 skin on top. The Redmi 5’s pricing is said to start from 699 yuan (approx. Rs 7,000) while the Redmi 5 Plus is likely to cost 999 yuan (approx. Rs. 10,000) onwards.
