Acer has announced two new 12-inch Chromebooks named the Acer Chromebook 512 and the Chromebook Spin 512. It was launched at the Bett conference for educators. The Chromebooks are pocket-friendly and have been developed to make it appealing to students. The Chromebook 512 is priced at $329.99 which converts to about Rs 23,500. The Chromebook Spin comes with a price tag of $449.99 which converts to around Rs 32,000. Both the variants will be available for sale from April onwards in India.

As for its features and specifications, the Chromebook 512 has a 12-inch IPS display. It comes with a resolution of 1,366 x 912 and an aspect ratio of 3:2. The device comes in both the touch and non-touch option and buyers can choose as per their preference. The new Chromebook has a 180-degree hinge to enable the screen to lay flat on the surface. As for its processing power, Acer provides three options with the Chromebook 512. These are the dual-core Intel Celeron N4000, quad-core Celeron N4100, and quad-core Pentium Silver N5000 processors. Buyers can choose from among the configurations – 4GB or 8GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage.

The Chromebook 512 is also MIL-STD-810G standard compliant. This means that the device can withstand a certain degree of rough physical use. The keyboard can also safeguard itself if water falls on it. The laptop comes with three connectivity options including two USB Type-C ports, full-size USB 3.0 ports, a microSD card slot, and a headphone jack.

The Chromebook Spin 512 is a premium offering that comes with a set of improved features. Instead of a 180-degree hinge, the device comes with a full 360-degree hinge, hence the word “Spin” is seen in its name. It comes with a bundled Wacom EMR stylus that enables users to write down notes on the 3.31-pound laptop. The screen, RAM and storage, port selections are the same as the Chromebook 512. The CPU options for the Chromebook Spin 512 exclude the dual-core Intel Celeron N4000 as it is available only for the more pocket friendly option.

The Acer TravelMate B114-21 is a rugged notebook which runs Windows 10 in S mode. It complies with the same standards of durability as the Chromebooks and sports a rubber bumper. It has an impact-resistant body which ensures that it can withstand a fall from a height of up to 122cm. The Acer TravelMate B114-21 can be configured with up to a 7th Gen AMD A6-9220C APU coupled with Radeon R5 graphics. It complements a peak of 16GB of RAM and up to 256GB of dual-lane PCIe NVMeSSD storage.

Acer will also reportedly offer low-powered versions of the device powered by an AMD A4-9120 APU and eMMC flash data of up to 64GB of eMMC flash memory. The new Acer laptop boasts of a 14-inch full-HD display that comes with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. It comes with a 180-degree rotatable hinge. As for the connectivity options, it facilitates an HDMI port, two USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.1 port, an SD card reader, a 3.5mm headphone jack and an RJ-45 Ethernet port. The wireless connectivity is taken care of by the Wi-Fi 802.11ac. The Acer TravelMate B114-21 will be available at a starting price of $319, which roughly converts to 22,700. The TravelMate B114-21 will be made available within the second half of 2019, the availability of the product across the region will wary basis the demand from each region.
