55-inch OLED TV from LG – Something to Look Out For This Year

When it comes to entertainment, you definitely would not want to compromise on the picture quality. Even today, television turns out to be the major (or call it the only) source of entertainment for billions across the globe.

Now, if you are planning to get rid of that old rusty, bulky TV lying orphan at the corner of your bedroom, LG plans to offer you a fabulous surprise – a 55-inch OLED TV. The product was to be launched in 2012 but was delayed due to a few manufacturing issues. Hopefully the TV should be up for grabs by early 2013.

LG-OLED-TV-55Accordingly to a few reliable sources, the TV might cost you something around $10,000 which means you shed Rs. 5,00,000 on this one. Pretty expensive, isn’t it? Well, that’s because it seems to be packed up with some amazing features. Let us have a close look.

In case you didn’t know, OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diodes. OLED screens are capable of offering a contrast much better compared to a standard LED. Usually OLED screens are found on smartphones. This is the first time a gadget will be sporting an OLED screen so huge – 55-inch. Colours seem to be strikingly rich and the picture quality is sure to knock you down. Viewing angles are much wider. Unlike other 3D TVs that use a active 3D technology, this one uses a passive 3D technology, which means the 3D glasses won’t be powered by a battery.

Let us now move on to the design. The TV is just 4mm thick. Yes, that wasn’t a typo error. So, even your brand new iPhone 5 seems to be fatter than this amazing piece of innovation.  However, the only problem for the TV being skinny would be ‘no space for connectivity ports’. The set includes an additional box that houses all the necessary ports. Well, this box isn’t bulky either. Watch the TV up close or from a distance, move on your right or to the left, the picture quality is not at all affected. Amazingly, the TV weighs just 7 kg. No doubt, that’s much lighter than the one you currently own. You can either mount it on your wall or simply place it on top of your TV cabinet.

  • Passive 3D technology
  • Better viewing angle
  • 4mm thick
  • weighs only 7 kg

Final Verdict
The design is definitely unbeatable. Can you find something that’s as thin as 4mm? That’s impossible at least for now. In terms of performance, it surely seems to be somewhere at the top. Well, that’s what the manufacturer promises to offer. However, the price tag might cause you heartache. But with all of those fabulous features bundled in, you probably shouldn’t mind spending those extra bucks.
