5 Must Reads for Vampire Book Lovers…

For centuries the lure of the unknown has always excited us humans. One genre which has always been a winner with readers is Vampire Stories. Their immortality, their secret charm, their world…everything about them just spells wonder. When a vampire stealthily seduces its prey it gives us goose bumps! With the rainy season on, there’s nothing like tucking into a blanket on a stormy evening with a good vampire story to keep you company. Like all genres there are good books and then there are great books. So, we decided to put together a list to help you choose from among many books available.

1. Salem’s Lot

salems-lot-paperbackWritten in 1975, this Vampire story can give you chills till today. But what else do you expect from the master story teller Stephen King. The story is about a small town, Salem’s Lot, a typical modest New England Town. Suring the day it’s like any other ordinary town, but as the sun goes down strange things begin to happen.Something strange, that people are too scared to talk about. As the evil roams the earth, the devilishly sweet insistent laughter of a child can be heard echoing through the fields. One can feel the presence of silent looming spirits lurking right outside the window. Stephen King brings his gruesome imagination to life in this tale of spine tingling horror.

2. Let the Right One In

This Swedish Vampire fiction was written by John Ajvide Lindqvist in 2004. The story is about the relationship between a 12-years boy named Oscar and a vampire child, Eli, who is centuries old. Set in Blackeberg, a suburb of Stockholm, in the 1980s, the book talks about a boy who was bullied and a mysterious girl his age. The book brings forth various human imperfections and societal issues that are swept under the carpet such as alcoholism, paedophilia, child transgenderism and murder. The book was also translated into several languages and made into a movie.

3. Dracula

You are not a true vampire story lover if you have not read this Gothic Vampire classic written in 1897 by Irish author, Bram Stoker. The story was the first introduction of the Vampire character Count Dracula and is the story of Dracula’s adventure in his move from Transylvania to England. It’s rich with details of the battle between Dracula and a small group of activists who fight him under the leadership of Professor Abraham Van Helsing. The novel was a big hit and has been adapted in many forms such as theater and films.

4. The Vampire Tapestry

American Author Suzy Mackee Charnas wrote this fang fiction in 1980. The story is about Dr. Edward Lewis Weyland, an anthropology professor, who believes that the lust for blood is not supernatural but a biological need. He spends decades in hibernation and lives a discrete lifestyle. In the quest to find who or what he truly is, Weyland lives his vampire life in most distinct fashion as other vampires. The Vampire Tapestry is a story wholly unlike any you’ve heard before

5. Marked

This teenage Vampire novel is the first in The House of Night series. Set in a modern world like ours, this story is about 16-year old Zoey Redbird who has always believed in vampires. In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire—that is, if she makes it through the Change.  Not all of those who are chosen do.
