While the rumors are making round about the Samsung’s new flagship Galaxy S5, the Korean tech giant has launched a new version of its smart phone Galaxy Grand. It has added a new member to its flagship lineup by means of Galaxy Grand 2. But the exact details about pricing and availability are not yet known.
The new device seems more immersive than its predecessor. There are no major changes in terms of design; however there are some improvements on the inside. The new 5.2″ device (larger than Grand’s 5″ display) sports a 16:9 TFT display with resolution of 1280*720p. It’s powered with 1.2GHz quad-core processor (Grand has dual- core processor) with 1.5GB RAM and 8GB internal memory. One can expand the memory up to 64GB via microSD card. The phone also provides dual-SIM functionality just like its predecessors.
Grand 2 runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS but there’s no news about when will it get the new Android 4.4 KitKat OS update. The device is equipped with 2600mAh battery that can last up to 17 hours of talk time and 10 hours of music. There’s a Multi Window feature by which user can run two applications simultaneously.
At the back, you’ll find 8MP main camera which is capable of recording videos in Full HD 1080p format. There’s also a 1.9MP front facing camera capable of recording HD videos. The handset will be available in three color variants- Black, White and Pink. There are several interesting camera features such as- Best Photo, Best Face, Auto Focus, Continuous Shot and more.
Samsung said in its press release that “Galaxy Grand 2 is a device that offers an optimal large-screen experience on a portable, compact smart phone. This evolution of the Galaxy Grand series brings meaningful upgrades to its predecessor including an improved HD viewing experience, enhanced performance, and many other intuitive features.”
Samsung Galaxy Grand is one of the popular mid-range smart phone and the new updated version by Samsung is set to give a stiff competition to domestic smart phone makers such as Micromax, Karbonn, Xolo and others.
Grand 2’s major competitor will be Motorola’s Moto G which is expected to launch in India and US early next year.
