Apple iPhone 7 32 GB Specifications
Launched in 2016, Apple iPhone 7 saw the technology giant departing from its usual style of launching an entirely new design once the ‘S’ version of a model is released. The iPhone 7 looks very much similar to the devices launched by the company in 2014 and 2015. Even the dimension is almost similar. But while not a lot has changed between iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 on the outside, the latter comes with a host of better features.
Some of the noteworthy upgrades include water resistant build, quad-core processor, and this is the first time that the starting storage capacity of an iPhone is 32GB and not 16GB. Apart from all this, one of the most significant upgrades in iPhone 7 is that it lacks a headphone jack. Instead, it now comes with a lightning port and EarPods which you can use just like standard headphones.
Apple has always been known to set off trends in the tech space. Be it the optical drives, floppy drives, flash, USB, or its own 30-pin connector for iPod; the company just knows when it’s time to move on. This time with iPhone 7, they’ve decided that it’s time to bid goodbye to the headphone jack.
iPhone 7 Out-of-the-Box
Design and Screen
On the outside, iPhone 7 measures 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1mm and weighs 138 grams. The screen of the phone is a 4.7-inches LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen which supports 16M colours. The display has a resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels in ratio 16:9 and per inch pixel density of ~326. For enhanced protection, the phone features ion-strengthened glass and oleophobic coating found on all the iPhone’s.
The Camera
The phone features a 12MP primary camera with a 1/3” sensor and features like quad-LED flash, phase detection autofocus, geo-tagging, simultaneous 8MP image and 4K video recording. The camera also supports HDR photos in the panorama and can also detect face/smile. The camera on the front is a 7MP camera with a f/2.2 aperture for 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second.
The Improvements over iPhone 6
The phone is now water resistant and can remain in up to 1-meter deep water for 30 minutes without any damage. Another major difference between iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 is that the colour of the antenna lines at the back has been tweaked to better match the colour of the phone in glossy jet black and matte black models. Also, the camera bump is slightly enlarged and better curved into the casing to further improve the looks of the phone. The phone is available in Black, Jet Black, Gold, Silver, and Rose Gold colours. A Red version of the phone was also launched in 2017 and is now available at some online stores.
On the Inside
The Hardware and the Software
If we look under the hood, Apple has made quite a few changes in iPhone 7. The phone comes powered with iOS 10.0.1 which is upgradable to iOS 11.0.2. It features the powerful Apple A10 Fusion chipset and a quad-core 2.34GHz CPU. As per Apple, as compared to the A9 chip used in iPhone 6, A10 Fusion is 50% faster. The quad-core beast is made up of 2x Zephyr and 2x Hurricane cores. iPhone 7 also has a powerful GPU in the form of a six-core Power VR Series7XT Plus.
Storage and Battery
The starting storage capacity of iPhone 7 is 32GB. It is also available in 128GB and 256GB versions. The phone is powered by a Li-ion 1960mAh battery which is non-removable. As compared to iPhone 6, the battery life is much better on iPhone 7. On a full charge, it can offer a talk time of up to 14 hours on a 3G network and audio playback of up to 40 hours.
What’s More
The phone features a fingerprint scanner on the front, gyro, accelerometer, barometer, compass, and proximity sensor.
Pros and Cons
Pros
• Multi-Touch Retina HD Display- iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inches Retina HD Multi-Touch display which uses IPS technology for improved brightness and reduced reflections.
• Quad-core processor- The phone has two power-efficient cores that use less battery and two which are more powerful. All the basic tasks are managed by the power-efficient cores while the powerful cores come into play when you do something that is more taxing to the phone.
• Stereo speakers- It is the first that an iPhone features stereo speakers. The audio performance of iPhone 7 is two times better than that of iPhone 6s.
• Faster fingerprint sensor- The fingerprint sensor on the home button has been improved further, for a better overall experience.
• IP67 rated- The phone is IP67 rated. This means that it can remain in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes without any damage to the phone.
Cons
• No audio jack- Apple has ditched the headphone jack in iPhone 7. Instead, it has a Lightning port for connecting EarPods. However, a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter is included which can be used for standard 3.5mm headphones.
• No 2x optical zoom- The phone lacks the powerful 2x optical zoom which is available in iPhone 7s. With such an amazing camera, Apple should have offered the feature on this phone as well.
• Water-resistant but not waterproof- While the phone is IP67 rated, it is only water-resistant and not waterproof. The 1-year warranty doesn’t include any damage caused to the phone through liquid damage.
• RAM not improved- iPhone 7 comes with the same 2GB RAM found in iPhone 6S. With modern games and apps requiring more resources, this only makes the phone less prepared for the future.
• Cannot be used to listen to music when charging- As there is no 3.5mm jack, you can use the Lightning port for charging the phone or listen to music.
